I'm conflicted on Donavan... it's a new day and age of college basketball compared to when he last coached it.

I won't hate the hire but would be skeptical.
that is my concern as well
the college game has changed 200% since he was involved
Can he recruit in today's market?
How will he handle the NIL crap?
What would he do to help fund the NIL?
College basketball is now just a clone of the NBA's free agency. How will he handle the portal?

I'm sure Mitch has a list and Golden and Donavan are on it, whoever it is MUST have the University of Kentucky as their number one priority.

Whether Donovan would be a good choice is hard to know. But any current college coach would be able to bring over their players and recruits.

He would literally be building a completely new roster with no preexisting relationships to do so.

Suppose it goes this way. Hurley is contacted today, he could say "I'll think about it tomorrow after our game", or he could say "no", or "I could be persuaded, but not until tomorrow". But supposing it is "no", and then Stevens is "no", could Donovan accept, continuing to coach the Pacers for another 9-15 days, while still setting up a staff here and calling and meeting players.
Or how unheard of is it for there to be a coaching change and an interim coach coach the playoffs and/or final week of the season. We've seen college football teams do that for bowl games, Michigan did it in basketball in route to a Final 4, I don't know but wouldn't be shocked if that happened once between Steinbrenner & Billy Martin w/ the Yankees.

He can recruit and would do fine with NIL.

We don't know that. This hire can't be a maybe.

With what we just went through give me a coach first.

Unfortunately just a coach isn't a realistic option unless they hire someone that's elite at handling all the other stuff.

We will literally have noone besides probably Travis Perry. If we make the wrong hire and can't make hay in the portal, we will be worse than probation era bad. I know people want anyone besides cal, but it can't be solely an emotional response

I Ike Donovan but his tenure at Florida ended in a pretty rough several years

In 4 of his last 5 years he was in the Elite Eight (and one Final Four). He did go 16-17 in his last season but I think he was mentally checked out because he could go to the NBA after his 10-year window of not being able to do so after spurning Orlando expired.

He did have a few NIT years post-national title, which again, I think was because he checked out for a while and wished for the NBA.

I’ve been saying this for a few years and it’d be funny if it were to actually happen.

Donovan is stuck in perennial limbo with the bulls. 9 or 10 seed having to go into the play in game. He’s just another coach in the nba, would be the face of college basketball coaches.
That Lavine contract is an anchor and their best player is old and a FA.

I want to believe that coaching is not rocket science. Its part luck and strategy based.

This guy is a tried and true coach, he won at Florida the NC twice?

But, we can't choose someone who is not hungry....am I right?

I'd prefer a fresh face, who may not have a lot of success but surely knows, they could win with the right team and mindset.

He was at Florida for sure. His NBA tenure has been a colossal disappointment and Bulls fans would be just as happy seeing him leave as we are too see Cal leave.
Um... avg coaching tenure in the NBA vs Billy D's tenure?.....about average. a colossal disappointment? wrong!

Does anyone honestly think Donovan says yes this 3rd time we ask him? If he does get asked a 3rd time? I think he honestly would with the help of Pitino’s advice and maybe Sheppard. We could get Reed another season because of it….

Billy Donovan would be an incredible hire. I think Hurley gets the first call and then Billy right after him.

What do you mean we don’t know that? Two national titles and winning the conference idk how many times at Florida wasn’t enough for you? Hahahaha

Anything before the portal era basically never happened. The game is that different. This hire cannot be a reach. It absolutely must be someone successful in the new era.

He’s a smart man I’m sure he could do it. He’s as good of a college coach as there is out there.

I may be wrong but I just don't see Kentucky getting anyone but Oats.

And the Oats Hurley matchups in the final four will become a thing.

Now watch this be 180° off.
