I love listening to Bill Walton call a game. Given some people's penchant to whine about announcers on here I wonder just how they even enjoy watching basketball. I guess some aren't happy unless they have something to be miserable about.
I don't have any problems with Tony Romo bashing. His Carnac impression is wearing thin. Never have liked him and it has been fairly annoying to see how far he's already succeeded for some baffling reason.

This would be amazing.
I like Johnson, Rafferty and Dykes, they're just at the wacky end of the good announcer spectrum. Throw in Walton and Kennedy just for the chaos and "what the duck did he just say?" factor, and it would be the wildest crew in sports announcing history.

My favorite Bill Walton call, Houston Rockets vs Utah Jazz, May 29, 1997.

Greg Gumbel: "Russell will inbound at half court"

Bill Walton: "Uh oh" (as John Stockton catches ball and moves to 3-point line.

Greg Gumbel: "Stockton. Open. Three. Got it! And John Stockton sends the Utah Jazz to the NBA Finals!"

Big Red cracked me up with that simple "Uh oh".

Well Arcadia, I'm not one to complain about announcers. I'm fine with most, in fact. But Bill Walton is a freaking idiot. In the play I described above, he was too stupid, or has lost too much cognitive function, to even understand what had happened or what rules would apply to the situation.

To those who say he's entertaining, sure, if you like watching a game with a drunk or high surfer boy, then sure, he's entertaining. I prefer an intelligent commentator who thinks clearly and isn't hugging his bong. To each his own, though.

Like I said before, Walton is the only player in the history of the game that was a 3 time first team basketball All-American, and 3 time first team Academic All-American. Despite what you think Bill Walton is no idiot. Were you ever an academic All-American even once ? I will be at the doctor's office tomorrow out by the Marion turn off. Stop by and let's talk a little basketball. I am the guy that looks like he should be playing for ZZ Top.

I do not doubt he WAS an academic all American. I do not doubt he once knew more about the game than I could ever dream of understanding. But as of now his cognitive abilities and his ability to process the game in real time are nil. I'm not sure what the cause is, but this is what I've observed. Perhaps he just likes to make a joke of the entire thing and make that part of his gimmick. Sounding like a stoner doesn't appeal to me, though.

Id much rather listen to Bill Walton over some of the local announcers who say things like "This game art ta be a dandy!!!" We just have to agree to disagree on Bill Walton. I wouldn't normally watch the Pac 12 but I do watch if Walton is calling a game if I have the time.

I think Walton is still hallucinating from all those drugs he used in the past.
It’s all just an act. I met him at the airport once. He is capable of being 100% normal and lucid. He just chooses to play that character on TV.

I was sitting here watching the end of this UCLA-USC game, which USC won, by the way. Listening to Bill Walton is like listening to a Cheech and Chong sketch. At one point there was an issue with the clock. It just stopped. The poor play by play guy is trying to explain that the officials had to go to the monitor to see if there had been a shot clock violation. Walton's answer was that they should just go back to where the clock stopped and give it to the team that had the ball. The play by play guy was explaining that play had continued for another 10 or more seconds and they can't just give it to the team who had it and do it all again, but Walton never got it. That guy's brain is like a bag full of cats.
He is the “ Mike Shannon” of college announcing.

The hardest I ever laughed at Bill was when he called a normal missed 3pt shot by Stacey Augmon the worst shot in the history of the NBA during a meaningless regular season game.
