He even had crappy QBs most of the time too, until Watson arrived but he was injured a lot. Those are actually really impressive finishes.

Who knows , it's uncertainty, I'm sure he'd take Michigan, LSU, USC for the same pay.People invoking O'Brien and Stoops and other big names who've been around the block don't seem to understnd you aren't getting the coach from 10 years ago or more, you're getting one that has more money in the bank than they will ever need and are not as hungry to prove themselves and everyone (for the most art) loses some of their passion for the job the closer they get to retirement. Stoopsy is not going to come here with any fire in his belly, same for Bill. Get a younger more energetic guy, and if he uses us for a stepping stone, great.
Better than our tennis coach looking offensive coordinator who was selling insurance for a living 2 years ago. O'brian is a seasoned pro. Unfortunately not part of the good ole boys club of Frost's though so most likely would never happen. We don’t want him.
Again with the hate… don’t act like Lubick wasn’t a coach for most of his career. Did he take a break from it? Sure.Better than our tennis coach looking offensive coordinator who was selling insurance for a living 2 years ago. O'brian is a seasoned pro. I certainly don't have "hate" for the guy. And my criticism of him stems from on the field performance. Had he shown a good product I wouldn't need to say negative things. As a Husker fan I wish him the most success, however, I question Frost's ability to make quality staff management decisions more and more as I see more games. And until I am proven otherwise I will think Lubick looks like a tennis coach.Again with the hate… don’t act like Lubick wasn’t a coach for most of his career. Did he take a break from it? Sure.
Give him a hard time for the product on the field. But don’t pretend he has never coached. I don’t get it.
The tennis coach part was fine… it was the insurance crack that didn’t make sense. He’s been a coach for 24 of the last 25 years. To not acknowledge that and instead make a crack about his job selling insurance seemed disingenuous at best.I certainly don't have "hate" for the guy. I don't think he was the biggest problem in Houston but that is a mess. It got worse after he left. He has a low tolerance of whiners and people who aren't team players maybe to his own detriment.Saban quit on the Dolphins. He didn't get fired. But in any case Bill O'Brien will never be a candidate at NU. He tried to leave Penn State after only one year and then did leave after two years there. Our administration is not going to hire a coach who views Nebraska as a stepping stone. But should we want him anyway? Look at the mess O'Brien left behind in Houston. He's the Steve Peterson of NFL GMs. Getting rid of guys just because he's butt hurt that they don't like him. Do we want to hire a guy who traded DeAndre Hopkins for a washed up running back?
There were some extenuating circumstances at PSU as you should recall including a mass exodus of transfers due to the JoPa scandal and sanctions. They also were limited in their scholarship numbers yet he still won some games and recruited very well setting up his successor with some good talent.O'Brien was 8-4 and 7-5 at Penn State, including losses to Nebraska/Pelini both years. No thanks.
I think he would take it in a heartbeat and he could win at NU.Thinking O'brien wouldnt take an offer from us unless it was insane money.
I think Trev would want a relatively young guy who would stay at Nebraska for a decade or two, not someone who would be looking to return to the NFL asap. If you can't get Fickell, Kiffin or Campbell, stay with Frost for another year and see what happens.Heard him described as a control freak.
Not sure about that, but if he is an ‘all work’ kinda guy, I could see Trev being at least intrigued.
Dumb.I certainly don't have "hate" for the guy. And my criticism of him stems from on the field performance. Had he shown a good product I wouldn't need to say negative things. As OC for Saban, and with his background, if he does well, which he will, he will pretty much have any job he wants when it becomes available. Hell, he may be head coach there in a couple years when / if Saban decides to be done. NU is a good, not great, job. He's in the driver seat right now.I think he would take it in a heartbeat and he could win at NU.
Hold onto Frost and plan on your best years looking like Iowa's normal year. I would like someone who is capable of doing quite a bit better.I think Trev would want a relatively young guy who would stay at Nebraska for a decade or two, not someone who would be looking to return to the NFL asap. Hopefully, after this year, Trev wont have to make this decision.
Saban seem to have plenty of money in the bank but still has the fire in his belly. In fact he had plenty of coin in the bank when he took the Bama job. Guys like him who are successes in high profile jobs rarely lose the fire especially in sports. That said, I understand your point and it's not a bad one. The problem I see is that its tough to find a young coach with the "fire in the belly" who has demonstrated enough proficiency in their profession to be a success AND who might be willing to stay at NU. Hiring coaches is a crap shoot unless you have a guy who has proven success at your level. I still think IF Frost finds the right QB he could be successful at NU. JMO. Not sure we have that kind QB talent on the depth chart though. Haarberg has the arm but who knows about his accuracy and mental processing.People invoking O'Brien and Stoops and other big names who've been around the block don't seem to understnd you aren't getting the coach from 10 years ago or more, you're getting one that has more money in the bank than they will ever need and are not as hungry to prove themselves and everyone (for the most art) loses some of their passion for the job the closer they get to retirement. The three guys I mentioned would be my choices to get us to that next level.Hold onto Frost and plan on your best years looking like Iowa's normal year. I would like someone who is capable of doing quite a bit better.
What other blue blood college jobs do you see coming open? He would come to NU for what we're paying Frost and probably less. We've got the right AD who is going to be here for a long long time and most college football coaches are keenly aware of AD stability and what that means for their job security. There wouldn't be any concern about following a legend and our fan expectations can't get much lower than they are now. Taking the NU job would be an easy decision. And Oh yeah, other than the QB room the roster coming back next year will be experienced and pretty damned talented. As OC for Saban, and with his background, if he does well, which he will, he will pretty much have any job he wants when it becomes available. I am not going to tell you that he has never coached before, but Lubick was Less than successful during his time working under Petersen at Washington. I think the way the Huskies parted ways with him so fast made other programs hesitant to hire him.Again with the hate… don’t act like Lubick wasn’t a coach for most of his career. Did he take a break from it? Sure.

Chip Kelly was a legit OC and got promoted to HC. Even though Helfrich was the OC, Chip Kelly was the real Offensive coach. When Helfrich got the job they took a step backwards and Helfrich was the new Offensive leader even though Frost was the OC.I am not going to tell you that he has never coached before, but Lubick was Less than successful during his time working under Petersen at Washington. Again, I’m not denying that. Frost hired a football coach with 20+ years of coaching and one year in a bank. To only post that he was an insurance guy is disingenuous.Chip Kelly was a legit OC and got promoted to HC. Even though Helfrich was the OC, Chip Kelly was the real Offensive coach. When Helfrich got the job they took a step backwards and Helfrich was the new Offensive leader even though Frost was the OC.
When Matt Lubick became the OC in 2016, the whole offense sh_t the bed and everyone was fired. He was also quickly fired at Washington.
The point was that many coaches who failed at a previous job, were then hired on Saban's staff and went on to do pretty well as head coaches after that.
I don't see it being BOB. He will hold out for an NFL gig as an OC or head coach. It will be Matt Cambpell based on those names.I think he could help stabilize this program. He is no nonsense, People need to understand the undertaking he took at PSU in 2012 and 2013. He helped bridge the gap to help Franklin have successful years in 2016, 2017.
BOB talk about Nebraska
