Heard him described as a control freak.
Not sure about that, but if he is an ‘all work’ kinda guy, I could see Trev being at least intrigued.

I don't see how that's a bad thing.

Alabama is just beating the hell out of Miami. Alabama's offensive line is dominating, not even close to a fair fight.

Miami barely has over 50 yards in this game and are down 27-0. Nearly a sack on every drop back. Honestly looks like 2001 Miami against Nebraska.

Any P5 Athletic Director that does not include Bill O'Brien and Chris Klieman in their Top 5 list of candidates should be terminated for incompetence.
The question is how much improvement can he recruit here to Happy Valley..

One could only speculate - no worse, IMO probably better than the present coach and his predecessor (factoring in the atrocious attrition rate). O'Brien is a fire chief, proven success at puting out the house fire and saving the foundation. Nebraska football is the house fire.

He was fun at PSU because he hated it there and knew he was leaving, so he went for it on 4th down all the time, it was cool.

Didn’t Pelini beat this fire chief when he was in Happy Valley ?

Yet another fired coach heads to work with Saban and use that program and its guaranteed success to refresh his coaching profile.

No thanks.
Nick's staff is so funny now.

Like all these coaches that sucked all of a sudden got good at Bama?

Orrrrrrr

Is it just that they have the best players at pretty much every position vs every team they play.

A lot of Saban's assistants seem to do pretty well after they leave. Kirby Smart, Jimbo, Kiffin, Cristobal, Billy Napier, Mel Tucker, and now Sark is off to a good start at Texas. Even Mike Locksley had a nice win yesterday against West Virginia. He's had a few losers like Pruitt, but for the most part, the Saban Coaching Tree is impressive.

Did any of those guys actually start with Nick?

I have no clue but some of those names have been around forever. I feel like a lot of them got started somewhere else. Except maybe Smart and Jimbo, they might have been with Saban from the start.

Mel Tucker was the DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR for the JACKSONVILLE Jaguars and interim head coach for a 3rd of the season B4 he was assistant at Alabama.

Sark was Head coach at Washington b4 knowing who Saban was.

Kiffin was head coach in the NFL and USC before Alabama. I can go on and on but those guys did NOT start with Saban and he didn't "discover" most of them either.

Study under the best and sometimes you learn something about running a program. I'm surprised Frost has struggled the way he has because he has worked with some damned good coaches in college and the NFL.

I didn't read that anybody said the Saban had "discovered" them. He helped them rehab their resumes and careers. Just think. Saban offered Watson a job at one point and he turned them down.

Saban himself was fired from NFL, just like Pete Carroll. B O'B had a much better success in the NFL than Saban.
Saban quit on the Dolphins. He didn't get fired. But in any case Bill O'Brien will never be a candidate at NU. He tried to leave Penn State after only one year and then did leave after two years there. Our administration is not going to hire a coach who views Nebraska as a stepping stone. But should we want him anyway? Look at the mess O'Brien left behind in Houston. He's the Steve Peterson of NFL GMs. Getting rid of guys just because he's butt hurt that they don't like him. Do we want to hire a guy who traded DeAndre Hopkins for a washed up running back?

What we are seeing Alabama we will never see again. It's nuts that they have all of this turnover every year - players leave for the NFL, coaching changes, scheme changes, new coordinators, and they don't miss a beat on the field or in recruiting.

Napier's team got taken to the woodshed against Texas. Napier has a terrific 3-year start at Lousiana, but nothing to show yet that he can coach at a higher level. Napier would take an SEC job.

seems like most of the names thrown out have ~60 winning %age.
guessing we’ll have to look past a few ‘woodsheds’, regardless.

The point was that many coaches who failed at a previous job, were then hired on Saban's staff and went on to do pretty well as head coaches after that.

I can’t wait until we hire Bill… and subsequently fire him 4 years later. By that point I won’t like him anymore. His fault I’m sure

Hard pass on O'Brien. I find it difficukt to believe he'd look at us as anything more than a paycheck and if PSU coukdn't keep him then how would we, and his decisions in the NFL are head scratchers for sure.

Probably should be thinking more along the lines of a younger up and comer who's a little hungrier.

O'Brien was 8-4 and 7-5 at Penn State, including losses to Nebraska/Pelini both years. No thanks.
