I am a huge Red Sox fan, ever since they were on "game if the week" when I was little. That world series was crushing and Buck took a lot of heat over it. He was really mad at the media and it should be said that the fans welcomed him back to Fenway enthusiastically so the tag of being known for the error was mainly a media thing. The fans tend to forget some things when win some titles after that. So, while the error was historic, I don't think it defines Bill.

Was in Boulder watching that error that night at a bar, couldn’t believe when it went through his legs..

Was the day Colorado beat us for the first time since 1967...

Total mayhem that day..

Have a family member with LBD. Obviously not as well known as Alzheimer’s and misdiagnosed until recent years.

...and Rich Gedman (catcher) who probably could have snagged the game-tying wild pitch from Bob Stanley (pitcher) just a few pitches earlier.

Game shouldn’t have even gone to extra innings. Spike Owens couldn’t cover a Lenny D bunt in the 8th when to Sox had a 1 run lead and the Mets ended up evening the game up. Or stupid Mac pulling Clemens in the 8th. So many plays in the 6th game that could have changed Sox fate but everyone points to Buckner

Buckner actually has better stats then many HOF guys. But two plays stick out in his career. Obviously the one on that October night at Shea but he’s also the left fielder for the dodgers trying to grab #715 off of Hank Aaron. So here is a guy who was an amazing ball player but the two biggest plays he was ever apart of were games where he didn’t put glove on ball. IMO him trying to climb the left field fence in hotAtlanta will always stick out to me

October 25th 1986 maybe the worst day in history for Sox/ Husker fans of all time. Game 6 against the Mets and a 6-0 #3 in the nation Huskers lost
To Colorado that day. I was a little kid but I’ll never forget my dad (a fan of both too) the next day. He told me to fetch the newspaper. He takes out the sports page after I hand it to him. He walks outside and burns the sports page. Tells me that it’s not worth reading.

Sox and Huskers have never meshed well. The years 2004, 2007, 2013, & 2018 are music to Sox fans but not so much for Husker fans. Ever think god told us we can only have one?

He was very solid player. Boston had him throw out first pitch a few yrs ago and I think it was his time back to Fenway. The fans were good to him that day.

Being a Dad to two young baseball players, I've used the Buckner story a few times to remind them just how brutal the game can be at times. It's the nature of the game that there are times you wish you could dig a hole on the infield, climb in, and pull the dirt over you. It actually kinda made me mad yesterday when I read an article about his death and the last half of the article was about "the play". Even in death? I would've applauded had the article devoted one sentence to it as in, "known widely for his error in the 1986 World Series, Buckner accomplished many things in life...."
