just basically said Allen gets treated (physical play) from other teams because he is a great player from Duke. And he just needs to handle it a LITTLE better. ACC punishment and K's are ok with him. IF they would have suspended "I would be ok, with that also"
He was asked what advice he would give Allen...
Wow...bilas keeps dropping on my respect meter. His homerism grows more every week.
I know a lot of posters think he is great, bash away at me. But he (his unbiased) has really changed a lot the past year or so

Yep. He was essentially an apologist for Allen.

Not surprising, he was unwilling to go out on the shortest of limbs and say Allen should have been suspended.

If you watch the Allen play against FSU, pay attention to the score and the time on the clock. Two FSU players take a dive at the same time. The one on the bottom of the screen falls and then the ref looks at the FSU bench as if to say "nobody even touched him". At the top of the screen, yes, Allen stuck his foot out and deserves to be called out for it, but ask yourself this....why is FSU challenging the Duke throw in down 15 with only seconds left?

Maybe they were still trying to cover the spread? I don't know.

I do know that Allen has intentionally tripped 2 guys in 2 weeks. I don't see how your point is relevant to Allen's actions. Care to enlighten us?

He's fron't runner, just like Vitale. Bilas was all over our jock last year because we were a sure thing. Duke won the title and now he's a Dukie again. Mute him and fire up some Tom Petty.

I'm really disappointed in Bilas, to be honest. Yeah - always knew he was a Dukie, and had some homerism going on. But until recently, he's managed to keep that at bay pretty well. Enjoyed hearing him calling games because he knew wth he was talking about. But now - wow.

I guess if Bilas is no longer gushing all over Kentucky then we must hate him now? Seems to be a common theme. Last year know one could say enough great things about him. This year we're down a little bit and now that he's not giving us the accolades we were getting last year, everyone is off the Bilas bandwagon. I have no issue with him and would still rather have him at our games than someone like Dick Vitale. Even being a Duke guy, he's still more impartial than a lot of the other analysts out there. But, that's just my two cents. I like him.

He gets treated to physical play because of his being a punk more so than being a great player. Who the heck wouldn't like to take a swing at this prick?

Likes to hear himself talk and feels he is more knowledgable than those in charge on every issue. All he had to say to Allen grow up and rise above it if you want to be appreciated.

no, it's not that at all. Most of us has said he's always been pretty honest in his assessment of Kentucky, even during down years
It's his attitude towards unc** and Louisville. This year he's taken digs that were totally unnecessary. His entire demeanor has changed.
I like Bilas - or did, because he was honest, and a very good announcer. Now, not so much.

What has his attitude towards unc and Louisville been? Also, what were the unnecessary digs? To me, Bilas has always come off as more "matter of fact" like, which I appreciate. Thanks for the response.

Bilas is one of my favorite analyst. He calls them as he sees them about 95% of the time. But when it comes to Duke basketball he is a homer to the bone. Come on Jay you're a better man than this.

Julius Randle was a great player who was constantly getting hacked to death by physical play. If he'd retaliated with some of those Grayson/Dook-style cheap-shots, I doubt he'd have been given a pass by Bilas and the Sports Media Talking Heads.

Randle would still be taking shots at the free throw line this very day, if they'd called all of the fouls that he had to put up with when he was in the paint.

This is correct. Bilas is still the best in the biz but you can't expect him to think clearly about Duke. Allen isn't Hitler , just an immature kid . NO big deal really but he should of been suspended a game IMO. Either way no huge issue.

No the problem is: while he hates the NCAA, as well as many UK fans, this has clouded many UK fans judgement of him; that he's "fair or impartial"

That's BS. He's a sycophant and a lapdog when it comes to blatently corrupt coaches (i.e. Ratface, Crypt Keeper, Huckleberry)

Honest to God man, this shouldn't be hard

I still like Bilas and think he does a very good job during games but he has slipped a bit lately in his handling of certain things such as the T on Hump and now this. I'm not ready to write him off as another Dookie gone bad on TV but I like the old Bilas who just called them like he saw them better. Wonder what has changed it for him lately?

Nothing changed he just had to defend his team more which is understandable. Still rather listen to him then most. Its the guys like Dick Vitale who favor teams AND know nothing that are really horrible.

I am very disappointed in the response Mr. Bilas gave. It made me feel like he was saying that it wasn't this kids fault that he was a dirty player and that it was the treatment he gets from other players that is the problem. Typical Duke response. Could it be that Jay Bilas is actually Dick Vitale in disguise?

That is just the lawyer in him coming out,he can't help it.I think it should be mandatory that Bilas should argue one side of a point in the first half of a game and the other side of the same point in the second half.

He is just like the others that work for ESPN, they all
have to say what ever ESPN is telling them. The writing is on the wall if they did't they would be on North Carolina case for cheating 24 hours a day.

Vitale has probably forgotten more about basketball than most of of us ever learned.
The problem is - he forgot :p

I'm saying FSU manufactured this particular controversy, similar to the way Wojo tried to draw a foul on Magloire. Look, I don't like Grayson Allen, but this tripping thing has taken on a life of its own and its ridiculous. If the FSU player had played Allen cleanly all game long, why would Allen trip him with a 15-point lead with seconds to go? And why would their other player go down at the exact same time? If this was against us you'd be asking the same questions.

You want to go after Grayson Allen? Go after him for that fake head whip he does every time he drives to the basket. That's the kind of (stuff) that Duke does that I'd like to see them get called out on. The Luke Hancock BS. That's the kind of stuff I'd like to see removed from the game.

Bilas is continuing his bizarre downward spiral as a basketball analyst. He is totally in the tank for UNCheat and Duke. Really disappointing because he was so well-respected by most fans until this year.
I think he began to change at the tail end of last year,I agree that Bilas is very different now as opposed to a couple of years ago.

Has absolutely nothing to do with how good or bad we are this year, and how he is talking about our team. Nothing. It's his shameless shilling for UNCheat and now Duke. I get so sick of UK fans always finding fault with each other and turning it back on ourselves.
