Now if only Shaq could actually make that against a defender...
Anyone that has participated in sports knows that there is a big difference between practice and actual games. Some players have a smooth transition while others remain mired on the bench.

The biggest thing I noticed was how cut doorson looked. Hope he has a great year!

The only thing funnier on this site than hype around recruit mixtape videos is any hype around 30 second slow mo practice videos
I can't believe this post got even one like. What are you doing on a the basketball boards during the off season if you're the type that complains about a short clip showing the team working? Smh some people

It's not hype around the video, it's hype based upon Pike's comments about the bigs as the season ended and since.

Trust me, it is not just this site.

In fact I had a conversation with a head coach recently and he asked me what I thought about their social media accounts. First thing I told him was "In the off-season you need to occasionally post short videos 15-30 seconds long from workouts and weight lifting sessions. Fans eat that up. The S&C coach needs to Tweet before and after pics of the freshman to show how their bodies changed from the time they arrived in late June to the end of August. Fans eat that up."

He didn't believe me but he had their social media person shoot video and post it on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. He was amazed at the engagement level the posts had.

What are the thoughts about Myles Johnson? I’ve heard a lot of positives about how he looked in practice last year as the season progressed? For those who have been following more closely, do we see him as a legit post scoring threat? Better than Shaq Carter, better than Doorsan?

One thing Shaq needs to work on is getting off the ground quicker. Last year he took too long to gather himself before jumping, particularly on offensive rebounds. Don’t know if that was a function of his injuries or athleticism?

There was a report someone saying Myles was the best bigman by the end of the season. I can only imagine his body and skillset has only further improved and the only new big man is Carter. I expect him to be a big contributer this season and another example of Pike recruiting well. I think he has the best overall offensive skillset of the bigs. If he can score on the block he will play a lot

Hope he can make his FTs as well? Rashod kent did a lot of good things but FTs he really struggled with,

I remember this well! In our section, when Rashad was at the line, we used to yell to him “You Can Do It”

The pump fake might get a foul call, but it can also help you develop a mentality that won't help you long term. These players are fit for a reason. Go up and make your shot. It's a habit that does not serve a player.

As far as Myles J, I am not sure if he is the best at his position, but Rutgers is certainly improving in making sure their practices are as competitive as possible and give the players an opportunity to get better.

I think mid season you will see different starters than the first game.

I think during the offseason the fans are just desperate for anything they can consume that involves the team - clips of practice and before/after S&C shots give flesh and blood to what is otherwise just text. It's like a teaser trailer for a movie.... it's not showing much of anything, but it's *something* to chew on while fans wait.

Not really complaining, just an observation. It’s not so bad on this particular thread, but in past threads that Tango (generously) shares these videos, people try making real takeaways from them, which I find funny because there is zero context. Obviously others agree with me.

And I come on here in the summer for the occasional actual news update (if Pike or insiders have thoughts based on real observations), recruiting updates, etc.

I see what you're saying, but I think the one everybody did freak out over was partially because it was Myles Johnson, he looked extremely different and in better shape than when he got here, and we've never actually gotten to see the kid play...

Summer rumors on the boards are really hit and miss, from "Eugene is the most improved player on the team" (accurate) to "Souf Mensah can be an adequate back-up in the B1G" (god awful miss). Slightly annoying is that a lot of that comes straight from Pikiell.

For this summer/insiders watching last season, the biggest things floated seem to be the positive play of Kiss and Johnson in practice by the end of the year. Lets see what the hit rate is.

This is fair. I think it’s important to sift through who’s saying what (certain posters are more reliable than others) and what of it is coming from primary sources versus wishful thinking. For example, I haven’t heard anything really about Kiss from coaches or reporters, so I’d be skeptical he’s made some major leap. Johnson LOOKS different as Eugene did after his first year, so that is a positive sign. Add that with the fact our ther bigs aren’t that good, it wouldn’t be absurd to think that any hype surrounding him is fair - that maybe he is one of the better bigs already.

I believe Pike said Kiss is the most athletic player on the team. Also reports have said Kiss's shot is much improved

Myles is on the receiving end of the Eugene alley oop and you see him also half way thru the video. He certainly looks like a different kid.

Ithink we will see McConnell, Baker, Kiss, Harper Jr, Myles Johnson at least four or five times next season on the court together.

Hey Brian, I hope all is well by you in SJ.

I am just curious if you have been up to any practices, and could mention anything about what you have seen thus far.

Thanks sir!

Pike made some comments about Johnson last year that were very positive - that he could have contributed last year and was looking really good in practice. Great signs that he was "ready" last year, but was able to spend a season getting his body in better condition.

I don't know what we'll get out of Kiss.

If I had to choose I'd rather Johnson be the bigger contributer. We could use a low post big with his supposed skill set. I think he's going to be a pleasant surprise

I remember there being hope for souf but I don't really remember insiders pushing positive practice info on him similar to Myles or kiss
