While I'm all for safety, it is never 1st. It may be paramount at times, but to say safety is always first is insane and impossible.

Mike Rowe started this discussion several years ago and caught a lot of **** for it, but what he has consistently been saying since 2012 has much meaning today. I suck at imbedding on mobile, so I'll type some Cliff notes, but if some kind gentleman or lady cares to do so, many thanks.

Rowe says that the insane "safety first" bromide both breeds complacency and insults intelligence. If saftey is first, why not drop the speed limit to 10 mph, or stop constructing any tall buildings, or for that matter, play football at all, ever? A sport with giant people crashing into one another will most certainly cause some serious injuries.

Ask a soldier or a LEO a first responder or one of our hard working nurses if safety is first. They'll laugh. They go to work every day knowing they face elevated risk, and in some situations, throw safety out the window to do the job to help the helpless. To propagate the idea of safety first is to deny the very existence of bravery and heroism.

College football is one complicated shitshow right now, and it certainly is not a life and death profession, and is not as high on the list of vitally important staples as many of us sometimes want to believe. Caution and common sense is critical right now, especially around our high risk populace.

Wear your mask. Keep a distance whenever possible. Avoid large gatherings, people.

But to stop everything for everyone by taking choices from individuals concerns me; it disallows the trailblazers among us to see just how hazardous the road ahead will actually be.
