Maryland recruiting rankings (from 247)

2017: 18
2016: 41
2015: 47
2014: 41

The guys in the program from earlier classes that year were from decent recruiting classes - and were upperclassmen. And the best rated players in those classes largely were still around. It gave Durkin the luxury of redshirting more of the 2017 guys to set up the program for 2018 and beyond.

By comparison, our rankings:

2017: 42
2016: 64
2015: 56
2014: 56

Our 2014-15 years weren't as highly regarded, and a lot of players from those classes had left the program (including most of the highly rated ones). There was more need for Ash to inject younger guys.

Looking at next year (and going by current 2018 rankings), their 4-year average class ranking will be 31 to our 50.5... and our average is buoyed somewhat by a 2014 class that lost all of its top rated players.

We really need to put wins on the board next year and pull in a Top 30 class or we're going to continue to lose ground in the division and conference.
