Notre Dame and Stanford, make it happen Warren!!
I didn't think they were. I've mentioned Oregon (Nike) and Washington. Last summer I said I could see up to at most 24 teams in a B10. First move to the west and then at the time of the ACC GORs expiration a move to the east that could potentially include ND.
It's a mini sports league with ultra premium inventory that can be chopped up among networks and would have inventory to satisfy Fox, ESPN, CBS, NBC, BTN and streaming.
I feel a very good chance for Oregon/Washington...less certain about Stanford/Cal. I think a ND could help pull Stanford in if ND wanted it.Oregon and Washington would be good additions. Lots of people saying Stanford and cal make sense…don’t see what cal brings at all.
Maybe 4? Oregon, Washington, Stanford, ND. Gets BIg Ten to 18. Then expand east, VA and NC? That gets 20I feel a very good chance for Oregon/Washington...less certain about Stanford/Cal. I think a ND could help pull Stanford in if ND wanted it.
If the eventual end is 20 teams, I'm not sure Colorado would get in but if it were up to 24 then maybe.Don’t sleep on Colorado.
I don't even know if majority would be enough, I'd wonder if it would have to be unanimous given the harm to those left behind. The west coast teams make the most sense. Getting any of the ACC teams might require both the SEC and B1G taking a few teams so that a majority vote to end the GOR.
Academics ... and the entirety of the state of California. It also collapses the conference and puts all of the remaining schools (Oregon, Washington, Colorado) in terrible positions because they are bad fits for the other superconference.Oregon and Washington would be good additions. Lots of people saying Stanford and cal make sense…don’t see what cal brings at all.
Well considering USC/UCLA left behind other Cali schools as of the news now, OU left Ok State and Texas left other Texas schools behind...I tend to think it won't be an issue given the history of other moves.wouldn't there be issues in WA and OR about Ore State and Wash State not being included?
If a majority of the teams don’t want to be there, it’ll be tough to hold it together. It makes more sense for the B1G to continue taking AAU schools in new markets based on eyeballs. Think Stanford/Cal and Washington. Oregon/Nike is tempting and would probably get the invite too.I don't even know if majority would be enough, I'd wonder if it would have to be unanimous given the harm to those left behind.
It's not that it would hold together long term but the financial penalties being so onerous would hold it together short term as in til the mid 2030s or so.If a majority of the teams don’t want to be there, it’ll be tough to hold it together. Colorado was a name being floated before the UCLA and USC news.If the eventual end is 20 teams, I'm not sure Colorado would get in but if it were up to 24 then maybe.
IMO they were down the list from USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington..it would have to be a move to 20 now and 24 in total between the west and east expansion for Colorado to get in. Basically I could see them as option 5 from the PAC12 after those first 4 but even that I'm not as sure because of ND/Stanford connection and maybe AZ too.Colorado was a name being floated before the UCLA and USC news.
Media markets will be irrelevant, more important will be number of fans willing to buy a streaming pass. This isn't 2010 when the Big Ten network was contractually obligated to be on basic cable getting $3-4 dollars per subscriber, whether they watched the channel or not.The top media markets that seem reasonable for the BIG to grab seem to be
LA
SF
Boston
Phoenix
Seattle
Miami
Denver
Charlotte
Raleigh
Portland
Salt Lake City
Do they make a run at the west coast media markets and have a true BIG WEST and BIG EAST
Media markets are so 2011.Media markets will be irrelevant, more important will be number of fans willing to buy a streaming pass. This isn't 2010 when the Big Ten network was contractually obligated to be on basic cable getting $3-4 dollars per subscriber, whether they watched the channel or not.
This is something I mentioned in the other thread a week or so ago. Everyone assumed USC/UCLA joined at the hip and I agree on its face but didn't know if politics would prevent UCLA cause of the UC system and now we know they got over that hurdle. So if they got over it, I'd think Oregon/Washington and whatever else school in the country could too.wouldn't there be issues in WA and OR about Ore State and Wash State not being included?
I wouldn't go that far. Too much talk in absolutes IMO. Media markets matter AND attractiveness of matchups and teams matter too. It all matters.Media markets will be irrelevant, more important will be number of fans willing to buy a streaming pass. add Stanford ,California along with Colorado if the B1G wants to get to 20.Oregon and Washington would be good additions. Lots of people saying Stanford and cal make sense…don’t see what cal brings at all.
We'll see but you don't have to agree to accept the fact most cable companies wont sell cable tv anymore in the next 5-10years. They don't make money on it.I wouldn't go that far. Yea linear tv is shrinking but I'd suspect it will plateau eventually and over time it will go the way of the dodo as older generations depart but you know YouTube TV, Hulu Live, etc.aren't much different and ad rates are probably affected too by the markets you reach. We'll see but you don't have to agree to accept the fact most cable companies wont sell cable tv anymore in the next 5-10years. They don't make money on it.
No benefit of adding Cal, in my opinion. If adding Stanfordadd Stanford ,California along with Colorado if the B1G wants to get to 20.
Utah could be the 20th, if the imitation Irish want to maintain their semi-independence in football
Oregon and Washington would be good additions. Lots of people saying Stanford and cal make sense…don’t see what cal brings at all.
package deal maybe. State says take one or none.No benefit of adding Cal, in my opinion. If adding Stanford
Missed what? A seat at the table? They will always have a seat at the table. Thing is finally circumstances of the college football landscape could force them to actually sit at someone's table now.Sorry... i think ND has all but missed......
perhaps Nd/Stanford wb their very last shot..... and their arrogance won't allow it..
Missed what? A seat at the table? They will always have a seat at the table. Thing is finally circumstances of the college football landscape could force them to actually sit at someone's table now.
And they’d be right because whoever they call will take that call. It’s just a matter of them being willing and at the time of the ACC GOR expiration I think they will be forced. A tweet from Heather Dinich I posted didn’t even make it sound as onerous for them to leave now compared to other ACC schools but who knows. I always thought they had to join the ACC if they joined any conference before expiration.yes, ND certainly thinks so...
Doubt it, as Stanford is not a state school.package deal maybe. State says take one or none.
Correct. The state would have no influence.Doubt it, as Stanford is not a state school.
there goes another bad idea down the drain..Doubt it, as Stanford is not a state school.
IMO Cal/Stanford aren't high on the list. Stanford's lifeline would be if ND requested them and as a carrot but that's itthere goes another bad idea down the drain..
Now between Cal and Stanford along with partner Colorado or Utah ( long-shot) jumping on board with Oregon and Washington making a 20 program Super Big sized
I would choose Oregon and Stanford.Oregon and Washington would be good additions. Lots of people saying Stanford and cal make sense…don’t see what cal brings at all.
