Just watched Big Ten Elite on BTN that highlighted the 1997 Nebraska football team. Anyone else catch it? I had literal tears in my eyes seeing what we use to be then and what we are now. That 1997 team felt disrespected entering the season because they weren’t ranked in the Top 5. They were pissed. They fought like animals to regain the respect they knew they deserved. They went 110% on every play and demanded responsibility and accountability from the entire team. Now, we just have a team that feels like it’s good enough to just wear that “N” on their helmets and go through the motions. It’s sad. Nebraska football is ingrained in our souls. So when they are down, we, as a state, are down. I hope we find that swagger again. Scott Frost is one of us. This hurts him more than anyone. He will fight like the player he was as a coach to bring us back from the depths of irrelevancy. It will happen. Someday, we will see a team with as much passion and fire as that 1997 team. Be patient.
