Of course this one hurts but a few very good things came out of this game.

1. RHJ’s ankle seemed fine. We didn’t need him out for a few weeks and it looks like we won’t. Very good news.

2. Reiber took a big step forward. That’s very good news for this freshman class and good news for this team. We won’t need much of him when Cliff comes back but he will give us some solid minutes

3. Lots of rust needs to come off but great to see Caleb back.

We gave this one away at the line. Can’t win games against Top 10 teams going 4-12. But let’s get Cliff back and finally be at 100% and get ready for rest of this insanely difficult B1G slate.

Everything is looking up. Very good seeing McConnell and RHJ playing so well after injuries.

Great to have Caleb back. We are a deep & talented team. Going to be a fun season.
Foul shooting will be our achilles heel.

Good observations. Couldn't agree more.

Reiber did very well as a freshman, finding the open man, blocking a shot or two

I do think there was a sequence in the last couple of minutes where Garza got 2 buckets on him, and possibly foul shots

It was too much to ask Reiber to contain Garza during crunch time.....

This years Rutgers team would have won by 10. We shot it from 3 and 1 like old Rutgers teams. The looks were great we just missed shots. Definitely not losing sleep over this one. You are never as good as you look when you make all open and shots and aren’t as bad as you look when you miss them.

to my eye we did all non shooting things like a top 15 team. This game does nothing to change my view of the team, if anything it strengthens it.

On to the next game....

oh, he is hard to stop with anyone guarding him, I just think Reiber on Garza during crunch time will almost never work out, he either gets the bucket, or the foul, or both

make no mistake, Reiber played well when in, I just would have not had him on Garza that late, we needed Johnson, fouls, or no fouls, or even tired.

Like I posted , we can’t rest easy until we are selected to play in the tournament
Do us all a favor and go away until March 10? Your sky is falling posts are so over the top. If your 2 eyes cannot tell you are watching a top 10-15 team , then I suggest you take courses on intro to basketball. This is the BiG 10. 9-10 teams will make the big Dance. 9 teams ranked. No off nights. We are one of the 4-6 teams that have a chance to win the conference. Lunardi has us a 4 seed now. So stop your nonsense. You are annoying especially after a loss. Crickets after a win.

Your post is idiotic. I have tons of board cred built up through the years.

We battled for a full 40 minutes (still without Cliff) and gave Garza some fits until he got it going late. This was an awesome basketball game, and to me it confirmed that Rutgers and Iowa are the two best teams in this conference. I can’t wait to play them again.

Barring a new injury, we are winning our next three games.
Stop it. In this league you can never say that.

most B1G games the margin will come down to shooting. If both teams shoot it the same today we win by 10-15.

there is no way we know how we or our opponent will shoot it. There is no team in the B1G whose jersey doesn’t say Nebraska where you can severely be out shot and still win.

Ultimately we want to get to the NCAA Tourney and for more than just a cup of coffee. Pike looks to be starting to play the long game with bringing Caleb back and giving Reiber more minutes. Get hot at the end, win the B1G tourney, get a 2 or 3 seed, then make it to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8. To do that you need to take some chances early.

Think of a healthy Cliff with a more seasoned Reiber and Mag, plus Caleb M with the rust shaken off late in the season. I like our chances with those players and our top 6.

Free throw percentage is the only area that concerns me. Otherwise, I feel like we've only seen about 75% of what this squad is capable of. Sure they've had periods within some games where they've shown flashes, but I just have a feeling we ain't seen nothin' yet. Wait til our roster is healthy and gelling.

See @RUTBAY1 's post above.

True, but do you really expect our next three opponents to seriously outshoot us? None have the firepower of Iowa or Garza. We will be fired up for revenge over Ohio State. Penn State is not as good as last year. Michigan State is playing poorly. I think our guys will be ticked off enough about losing today that we beat the Spartans, get our revenge against OSU, and beat a team that is looking like a 11 to 14 finisher.

If I am wrong, then I am wrong.

Rutgers is going to be a bubble team again. This game was very important since it was a ranked team.
That matters at the end on how many ranked teams we beat.
This was a much bigger loss than OSU.
This was at home.
We will be out of the top 20.
