Hope you don't have the problems that the 3 buddies of mine have had. Keep your receipt. You are correct that it is much cheaper but 2 of them have had to get rid of their Bayou Classics and buy BGE. One of them just moved his to the hunting camp. They lose their great price very quickly if they have to be replaced with one that actually functions correctly like the BGE or Primo.

if I was to buy one today, I would buy the Primo XL. Allows for you to do the exact same thing as the egg but also makes a few things easier. Adding wood or charcoal to a fire that is already been going is much easier with out having to remove the plate setter and grate. Also, you get more cooking area.

The quality of the two are the exact same. I would go with the Primo XL today. I say that having 2 BGE's and I don't think my wife would be ok with me purchasing another one.

I had a BGE for 13 years and just bought the Primo Oval XL. They both are great grills but the Primo is much more versatile. I'm able to cook more food and use less lump, using the firebox divider.

But if you buy one you have to get the cast iron grill $40-$50 for searing steaks and whatever else you want to sear. Just let the egg heat up to around 700 degrees and throw on some filets for 1 minute each on each side then close the dampers to bring it down to 400 or so for 5-7 minutes. This will leave a crust that holds all of the moisture in the meat. Also as far as using charcoal goes, when you finish cooking you can close off both dampers and save about 30% or so of the charcoal if you are cooking something that takes a short time. I have had one for about 2 years now and it has definitely been worth it. Also i believe the BGE has a lifetime warranty on all ceramic parts whereas the Bayou only has a 5 year warranty. I have also several pizzas with the indirect heat plate setter that i bought with the BGE.

and if you know a builder he could get you one at contractor price which is about $50 cheaper than that.
