Stoops is still a good coach. The whole dynamic has changed in college football though and you wonder if the guys that have all the money they could ever want still have enough fire in the belly to get back to the top. That was one thing about TO. He had the fire in the belly. He didn't want to lose at ANYTHING whether it was football or a battle with Dollar Bill or HP.

Stoops is no worse a coach than he was before, he just hasn't had as good a staff in recent years as he did in the early part of his tenure. I think Tom Osborne was one of the great football minds of all time and one of the best coaches ever, but Nebraska's success during his tenure had as much or more to do with his ability to maintain a stable, excellent staff as his individual ability as a game planner.

Tom covered some deficiencies with his own staff with relentless micromanagement and relentless work. He made tough decisions when it came to his assistants but only after he had worked his *** off trying to get them up to speed. Make no mistake, Tom's success was helped by his assistants, but he was the man. Unfortunately his management style is also why his coaching tree is very very short.
