So in multiple occurrences teams have exited hard from the Big 12. Is this because it’s a uniquely terrible conference? Or merely due to timing of TV contracts, and schools are made to make decisions quickly?

or is Texas such a ruthless and ****** conference partner schools just want to get away from them?

I think it is as simple as once one team leaves, it makes it easier for other teams to look around and leave. For the longest time I am sure it never really even occurred to the schools that they could even leave. I think most schools run their stuff in a very calm conservative manner.

All of the above BUT the underlying issue is that it is trying to be a P5 moneymaker conference in a low TV density region (other than Texas). Creates an unstable situation where teams will jump to a more densely populated conference if they get the chance because they want the stable money inflow.

exactly. once money became more important than on field success then geography and density became the most important factors.
the middle of the country doesn't have enough households so TV partners dont value them. Its the main reason anyone gives a **** about UT.
college fb has officially become major league baseball. The major market programs will dominate because thats where the money is. And they will get the majority of the best free agents because of their ability to pay transfers more

It may be fair for players to earn money for their efforts BUT the new rules also exacerbate the movement toward the richer teams. Bigger markets will now result in bigger legal payola for the star players.
