Big 12 May Survive? Pac-12 not expanding...

There was a thought the Pac-12 might scoop up the 3 Texas Big 12 schools and to get some games in the Central time zones, but it doesn't sound like they believe they can do that without losing 'per team' revenue.

I guess the next question is who's going to win the Big 12 vs AAC battle coming up.

Not surprising.

The Pac-12 schools wanted scheduling help to play more eastern/central time schools to gain more eyeballs and at the same time none of the Big 12 Leftovers (apologies to Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof) have the requisite marquee value.

Talked to @Kliavkoff who told me @GregSankey explained to him how OU/Texas went down. He believes him. Also agrees that if those 2 schools called any P5 commish "we would have taken the call and acted the same way he did." There's speculation that the Pac-12 may go down to a 8-game conference schedule at the same time the SEC would likely ironically move to a 9-game conference slate.

I read an article yesterday that stated the Big 12 had or will be extending an invitation to UCF and that UCF would be interested.

It's as if they have one foot in keeping the conference and the other foot trying to latch on to another conference.

It was obvious from the beginning that no one was going to pick up the leftovers. Most likely outcome is they add a few AAC teams (UCF, Memphis, Cincinnati, maybe USF or ECU) and be a 12-member Big 12.

I wouldn't go that direction. Maybe UCF I guess, because they are so big and in a big market, but I'd go for Boise State, BYU (if possible), Colorado State, UNLV. Basically would go west. I guess Cincinnati is a good program in a big city, and could make a rivalry for West Virginia.

Houston
Cincinnati

BYU
UCF

Very smart of the Pac-12. They still have a good brand. Notre Dame is also still aligned with USC and Stanford.

UNLV could be an interesting program in a few years with Las Vegas becoming a sports destination and their home games being at Allegiant Stadium.
