Can someone explain to me why the top teams in each division don’t start the season playing a conference opponent but the also rans including Nebraska start their season playing a conference opponent, this is the second year in a row that Nebraska has. No I’m not making excuses since we suck. Just curious

Well in Nebraska’s case, didn’t both teams agree to the Ireland game? I can’t imagine you would make that trip during the conference season.

And while I despise Ohio State, they have the toughest game of anyone this weekend, even if it’s OOC.

The Big Ten is under pressure by the TV networks to have more conference games during non-traditional times (early weeks of season, Thursdays, etc.) because it is good for ratings. For schools that want more exposure, it is a good deal. Ohio State doesn't need more exposure.
