Wow. Will be a lot more fun and challenging with UCLA and USC.

Furthermore now at 16 schools - just like old big east days

Tourney in all likelihood to be spread out over 5 days - as is now - but with 4 games on day 1 - and still top 4 getting bye to quarter finals on Friday.

Wonder if they will consider a tourney site in LA 1 year to appease UCLA etc.

Katz has pitched the B1G Hoops Tourney scenario where Round 1 is the first 2 days (4 games Day 1, 4 games Day 2), and then would basically go to the Quarters Friday, Semis Saturday, and Champ Game Selection Sunday. If I had to guess, Day 1 Round 1 games would be 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, and 4 vs 13. Day 1 winners essentially get a day off while Day 2 games are 5 vs 12, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, and 8 vs 9.

Day 1 would be lowest 8 seeds playing. 9 vs 16 / 10 vs 15 etc with winners playing seeds 5-8 on 2nd day. Then seeds 1-4 play the winners from the day before. Same set up as now except 2 more games added on day 1 due to the expansion of 2 more schools.

Yes, this is the way to do it. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday all have four games.

Wed: 9-16, 10-15, 11-14, 12-13
Thu: 5 through 8 teams enter versus Wed winners
Fri: 1 through 4 teams enter versus Thu winners
Sat: Semifinals
Sun: Final

I always preferred the BE timing. Friday semifinals. Saturday finals

Why do you need to appease them? You just tossed them a lifeline.

You’re right. They don’t need to be appeased. However I wouldn’t say we threw them a lifeline. We got the lifeline.
However a conference tourney in the L A area in March is a nice road trip and vacation and much more preferred than Chicago.

I'd keep the tournament at 14 teams. If you can't finish in the top 14 you don't deserve to play in a conference tournament.
True but you’re punishing student athletes. Big East did this many years ago just inviting Top 12 of 16 schools to BET and later changed course - inviting all. You need to invite all as it’s also used for recruiting.

No use trying to figure out the format for 16 teams. They’re not stopping there. Likely to go to 20. Phil Knight will not allow Oregon to be left hanging.

Life isn't fair. Teams that suck just make conference tournaments longer not better.
