Only downside is if he goes on scholarship and uses one of the 85 that could be better awarded to a portal transfer who has already "found himself". With everyone this staff has bought in plus who they will bring in before spring ball and after spring practice, Rhule is fast running out of scholarships.
A troubled individual returns for another shot? I really do hope for his sake and the sake of the team that he has figured out how to resolve his demons or whatever was troubling him. It would be such a great feel-good story if he's able to make that comeback.
Especially with the portal open, there will be other WRs available after spring ball. A talented 6-4 WR works out, or the staff goes gets somebody else in the next transfer window after spring ball.

I know we have the super nerdy crowd that won't want him back and think he doesn't deserve it...but this kid is SEC speed...

The previous regime's dumpster fire was worse than we thought.
Betts sees the new staff as the good grandparents not having to live up to the rules as mom and dad.
His temper tantrum did not work on MJ
Betts's maturity button got pushed by the new staff.
The new staff is desperate.
The new staff is collecting spaghetti and throwing it on the wall to see what sticks.
The list goes on but I think this will be interesting to watch develop.

I would think that since NU is approaching being double digits over on scholarships and probably still get a portal TE and LB, there is no scholarship available for Betts.
But the kid has a boatload of talent and is capable of being a guy who gets at least one chunk play per game.

Agreed, couldn’t be more apathetic towards this. If it works out then neat but if it doesn’t it’ll be a “well yeah we knew it wouldn’t” sort of story.
When Rhule let players back in past they had to walk on...maybe Betts gets some NIL (?)
The downside would be if he didn’t come to work. You need everybody on the same page. That said I suspect he’s figured out that life without sports isn’t all he thought it would be. He might have grown up a lot in 10 months. Hopefully he’s on a county scholarship and not taking one of the 85.
That whiny QB was the last QB to win us a conference championship. He also won a heisman and had us playing in the championship.
Give me Betts over hardworking less talented walk-one any day, as long as Betts is now serious. Elite talent trumps the rest
If he doesn't buy in Rhule kicks him off the team, same as anybody else. The idea that a guy with major upside is taking up a scholarship for a semester or a year that may not work out is some huge deal is laughable. He doesn't earn it he'll be in the portal again.
While he could be removed to a non-football scholarship he would still count towards the 85 IF he was on scholarship in the fall. When we’re already over the limit I think that’s the only concern.
I’m not worried about over the scholarship limits there will be a roster change after spring ball some kids will be asked to leave if they haven’t contributed after 3 years in the program. That’s the way things work in today’s college football

There are too many fans that think dudes with great talent don't work hard.
I would rather get rid of Timmy Ra-Ra that you know is never ever going to play.
There is a large contingent of fans and posters here who quit on the Huskers under our previous coach
