Take the University of Alabama, for example. Not only did enrollment increase from 25,000 students when Nick Saban arrived to 60,000 students when he retired, but the Crimson Tide have also fundamentally changed the composition of their student body.

Before Saban, the University of Alabama had three times more in-state students than out-of-state students. But today, that ratio has flipped, and Alabama’s student body now consists primarily of out-of-state students. It is an important distinction because those out-of-state students pay three times more in tuition than in-state students — $34,000 vs. $12,000 annually — which has helped Alabama collect billions in additional tuition.

I don't think you can equate the Bama and Colorado situations at all.

Winning inflates the bandwagon, I don't think anybody doubts that. That's what happens when you have 6 nattys. And Bama was already a big bandwagon school prior to Saban.

You are seeing those effects in Oxford. They have an established, winning coach in his 5th year and they are seeing record attendance at games and in enrollment. But that wasn't happening when Matt Luke and Coach O or even Houston Dale were leading the program. So yes, we do need to start winning.

But to bring Deion into the argument is odd. He's an anomaly. I'm sure he has done what they are saying he has done for the Boulder campus , but it's because he's a former NFL player AND widely known celebrity/TV personality. NONE of that stuff happens in Boulder if the HC is Kiffin, Matt Rhule, Dan Lanning, Lincoln Riley, etc. They bought into the Deion hype and they are reaping the financial benefits now, but what happens to them if he decides he's too good for college football once his boys Shadure and Travis get drafted? They immediately go back to being old Colorado.

MSU needs someone to help us win again, not a celebrity. Time will tell if that's Lebby or we have to start over AGAIN

Really sucked that Leach died, because he brought a level of celebrity and winning. Probably would have been a good era for MSU sports. But even then, our alumni worked hard to screw everything up, whereas Colorado went all in. So did Bama for that matter.

Every school has a culture that can shape their 'plan'. Mullen's wasn't too dissimilar from Bama/Saban, he came in, told everyone to STFU and get on board, and backed it up. He had that hard-nosed discipline factor (but again, our genius alumni turned on him as well). So I don't really know what could work for us.

But we certainly need more out-of-state students, for a variety of reasons.

Maybe he meant applications or something. Either way, goes to show you, there's a lot of bullshlt and embellishment out there, even among the good media.

You have to win it all. Don't believe otherwise. Small gains are always putting you deep in the red. Until your are the 1 team that wins it all. Bama is no longer able to do that regularly so Nick quit. It's a loss here on out for Bama unless they make massive athletic budget cuts
