Better, but offense still lost us the game....

10 points surrendered off turnovers. One at the goal line. Two bad snaps on critical 3rd downs was unacceptable. 24 points on this Mississippi D is not that impressive. But it was better.

They’ve improved since the Vandy game, but still have things to work out that probably won’t be fixed completely this year.

But with Rogers and Walley you have some pieces to build with. And this will probably be the worst OL we ever have under Leach.

I should've said he could've used a year in the weight room before seeing any PT at all.

The fumble on the 1yd lime was the difference in the game. We can speculate about any other play we want but that single play made the biggest difference of them all.

That’s probably true, but as long as they don’t get injured, we will probably be in a position to benefit more than most from the free year. A lot of players at your Bama/LSU/Uga/Florida and some other schools to a lesser extent will have players that came to college expecting to enter the first draft after they turn 20 so most of those players have expiration dates. Most if not all of our players outside of 1-2 were already expecting to be here 4 or 5 years already. That a real advantage.

The talent level at the top 10-12 programs isn’t really going to change because the supply of top tier athletes won’t change and there’s a league that will pay them to leave. And the next crop of recruits are still coming so those top programs will be playing a numbers game the next 3-4 years meaning they will process out a lot of players that they used a year or two and resources developing. Just so happens that we will be an attractive landing place for a lot of those guys that won’t need developing.

The defensive guys have seen the talent we have put in the league and while we’ll never get the receiving talent OM does, we will get more than in the past as they’ll know 60 balls are getting chunked with Leach every game. If they loosen up the transfer portal to deal with all the players that hafta go somewhere then we can really fill holes and/or make up for guys we sign only to find out a year or 2 in that they’re just not SEC caliber players. And this process will reverberate and be felt for several years after the virus is behind us so we will be afforded an ability to really pick and choose and make our roster in a way that’s sort of foreign to how we’ve always had to do them.

I said we needed 31 to have a chance.
We should have easily gotten that.
31 probably wins us the game bc one of those missed TD’s ended up giving om 7 the other way.

I'm proud of this team's effort in this egg bowl. They played their butts off. I have seen many egg bowls where we had better teams that didn't show up to play. These guys came to play. Even Williams redeemed himself after the fumble on getting in the end zone. Our secondary played better the second half against an offense that have made good defenses look bad. Errol got some good licks in. Spencer tackled 2 guys on that goal line blowup. Walley made multiple highlight reel catches. Spivey showed up with big catches. OL allowed one sack. These 47 or so scholly athletes along with the walk ons showed up to play. Thank you.

Offense completing 1 to 3 yard outlet passes are what kill us I think, not to mention those ridiculously long passes that the University of North MS kept completing.

This and having a functional running game are the two big things I see for improvement. I've lost count on the number of times we've had a 3rd and 5 to 7 and we complete an outlet pass 3 yards short of that first down with the receiver not having any room to make a move or create any momentum. If this offense is going to depend on WRs outmuscling SEC defenders for those first downs 2 or 3 times every drive, we're going to be in trouble.

I'm hoping Will is just throwing those passes because he doesn't have a full grasp of the offense yet. One of them he almost got the RB killed and he didn't look anywhere else. It was so quick I'd assume it was basically a called handoff or based off of a presnap read, but if it was a called play, we can't afford to do that in the SEC and if it was a presnap read, then UM's DC baited him into doing something stupid. That play would result in a lot of fumbles if we did it consistently.

I know that most want to give the defense a break considering what they’ve accomplished this year in spite of so many issues, but I’m also pretty disappointed in the secondary. I understand that they’re young, and they’re also going to get beat every once in awhile, but what I’ve watched the last two weeks isn’t just getting beat. They’re getting completely torched continuously on plays where as soon as you look up, it’s like... well, the only shot we’ve got is if the receiver falls down.

I can handle youth and mistakes, but holy hell, at least make it look like you’re trying to cover a guy.

Come on, man, how do you look at that and not know what is going on. Do I also need to remind you that Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss have some of the best WRs in the country?

24 points against worst defense in SEC. 10 yards rushing against the worst rush defense in SEC. yes will had over 400 yards passing, but it still on amassed to 24 point. Will Mushchamps offense double the amount of points we scored and he was fired afterward. let that one sink in. yes we are playing a ton of freshmen. yes, we played with 43 scholarship players. yes we are better than we were in October. BUT that was the absolute bottom floor. We barely beat vandy. Yes we hung in with UGA which is a good defense, but i would argue they are in a down year overall. I just have a hard time seeing us dominate games with this offense. we are in way too many 3rd and longs. We get way too many 3 and outs keeping the defense on the field and tiring them out. without some form of running game to keep us more balanced it's going to be tough. even Dan couldn't go 90 percent run and be very successful. Same thing with going 90 percent pass. don't know why he is choosing to be so one dimensional. even his other air raid teams ran more. but he still needs to learn from Riley and Kingsbury to open up his offense. I don't know if he is so set in installing the air raid in the purest form that he is completely ignoring run game right now or what? yes we are improving this season which is nice to see from the ground floor we saw in october, but we still have a long long way to go. and i believe he still has a lot of adapting to do to truly get the offense to get up in 40's or 50's points wise. Most of our depth issues were on defense this year and they still got after and did it the best they could. If we are going to be solely reliant on Will's arm to win big and dominate games on offense. he's going to have throw in the 600's it looks like.

A fumbled ball that is touched by an out-of-bounds player is considered an out-of-bounds fumble, even if the ball never leaves the field of play.

in the second half the Rebs didn't stops Us--
1. third down bad snap--we stopped us
2. third down bad snap--we stopped us
3 chop block 15 yard penalty--we stopped us

all of those plays were on third and long. we were not putting ourselves in good position to be successful and control the game in the second half. We were playing catchup the entire game. against a defense like ole miss you should be dominating the game from start to finish.

You are just assuming we would
convert. Other than the two bad snaps we were 25% on third down

You're 100% correct, and the improvement is good to see. It's just got to continue. No one criticizing the offense in this thread is wrong, I would just argue that we should all just try and limit the bad-mouthing to a minimum.

You guys criticizing defense? I don't know what to do for that kind of ignorance. Downvote away.

it's not necessarily the the bad snap but it's compounded by the two incompletions prior too and being third and long. i felt like that a lot with Moorhead's offense. decent first down run then follow it up by two incomplete passes and having to punt. outside of first half of UGA we are having a tough time stringy together drives for plays. and we haven't been explosive enough to make up for that.

the effort is there. I'm not complaining about that. these guys play hard. the on-field and off field discipline issues we saw with Moorhead are gone. the defense is there. the last piece is the offense. I think with some slight adaptations he could really get there and get rolling. of course more practice, reps, players will help. but I really thinkin it's going to be a combo of a lot of things.

What kills me is- especially on the long passes, our defenders never turn around to find and make a play on the ball. Instead they just chase the receiver with their back to the ball. Drives me crazy.
