Bethune-Cookman to the SWAC

[Maroon Eagle]

Not a surprise Bethune-Cookman is leaving the MEAC what with four other colleges recently leaving the conference which means they would have travel issues with the remaining MEAC teams.

The question was whether it’d be the SWAC or Atlantic Sun (with Big South football membership included).

The SWAC will have 12 schools in 2021.

The MEAC will be down to 6 football-playing schools at that same time— South Carolina State, NC Central, Norfolk State, Morgan State, Howard, and Delaware State. Coppin State & Maryland - Eastern Shore are non-football playing schools.

Wow. Never would have thought it. The MEAC used to be a stronger conference than the SWAC.

Yeah. I don’t know what the MEAC can do.

The HBCUs that are D-II don’t want to move up because they would be spending more money for travel as well as of course scholarships (Winston-Salem State was a provisional member 10 years ago but decided to stay D-II).

Good news for the SWAC. Cool!
