Nebraska - Steve Carlton? What is the connection?

Pretty amazing to see no Michael Jordan on there.

Lots of Cardinal fans in Nebraska in the 1960s, when the Cards were even more of a regional team than they are today.

Carlton is best known for his time with the Phillies, but he was in St. Louis a long time too.

That would be my guess, anyway, though I'm surprised the best-selling jersey isn't Gibson's.

The data that makes up this map is from a single year (2014) of purchases. More importantly, the data is taken from a SINGLE company that produces "throwback" jerseys (Mitchell & Ness).

Since it only represents Mitchell & Ness sales, it may (and is) important to note that:
1 - They do not have license, and do not sell any Michael Jordan jerseys.
2 - They do not have license to sell any college jerseys.
3 - Their products tend to be very expensive (for example, a Stan Musial jersey on the site is $300). How many Nebraskan's actually went to M&N's site and purchased a throwback jersey? For all we know, Carlton was the most purchased jersey in Nebraska, but the total was 3 jerseys.

These are just a few points. We can assume the data for most states would be very different if there was truly a way to capture all "throwback jersey" purchases. Michael Jordan would surely be represented. Nebraska would probably be represented by a Cornhusker great. Wisconsin would be represented by a Packer great, not a current NBA player.
