I have raised two kids, put one through college and am currently putting the other one through college right now from that beautiful aroma. So yeah, it does have an attraction.

Meanwhile everyone on here that's a tuscola or Pisgah poster; is just shaking their heads in disbelief that this is even a discussion. The only game I've ever seen more people at a high school football game is the 4th round playoff game between pisgah and shelby. You literally could not move in the stadium.
This years P/T game was the only one I've been to that I felt like I could walk to the bathroom and not miss the 2nd half kickoff.

That was loudest crowd too. I remember having to yell to the person beside you to just to talk. It was something.
I assume this started with my original comment and if you read it no one as far as know including myself is saying it not the biggest high school football game crowd you see or that it's not a great rivalry . I've kept up with it for years I even have a 1st cousin who went to Tuscola his kids went there his daughter was a cheerleader and he was always amazed at the crowds heck we even for a couple years had a football coach at Mitchell Doug Brooks who coached at Tuscola.
All I say was Mitchell and Heritage couldn't have that many at a game if we wanted heck your game averages 15,000 Mitchell county only has 15,000 people total , all I said was if you look at per capita or percentage wise we do pretty good for what we have. I can't figure out that was taken as insult to the Pisgah / Tuscola game.
Lol almost anything said about Pisgah is taken as an insult. I’m pretty sure 90% of folks on here understood the point you were making.
Old Mountaineer, not saying y'all's Rivalry isn't great. I'm sure it probably is to you guys. Ya gotta think to though, there's not much to do in either of those towns. So people will naturally come to to the game and its awesome they do.
Waynesville and Canton are 20 minutes to either Asheville or the casino so there distractions other than football. Yet people come to the game still. To me its kinda like the "Cocktail Party" between Florida and Georgia. Family on both sides but don't talk to me if you wear those colors on game day. No one is insulted by saying you're Rivalry is greater than P/T. Just Haywood county folks find it funny because we know where our Rivalry reigns in the state of NC.
I worked with a couple guys back in my high school days. One was from Swain and the other from Murphy. They were friends but on the day of the game they wouldn't speak to each other. Finally got to go watch the Swain/Murphy game about 10 years ago. Great atmosphere and game.

BPbear51 made the joke "No fault of ours that people prefer us. Something makes'em come" I assume was a reference that Haywood county has more people then Mitchell and Yancey because better place to live and I just made a joke back about the paper mill and that's all it was like I said I have family there my aunt married a man born and raised in Haywood county she was the head nurse and sometimes even acting president of Haywood hospital for over 30 years thier both passed but her son who I'm as close to as a brother still lives there and I know how important to the economy the paper mill is I was only cutting up I meant no real offense just like I'm sure he didn't but if you took personally as an insult then I apologize. But as far my original post I believe I showed the respect the Pisgah/Tuscola game deserves and again in my last comment while my right to comment on the Mitchell/Mtn Heritage game and give it some props as well.
Well I never even actually said ours was greater I was just saying we can't compete size wise and just say we do pretty good for our size I can't figure out how that became controversial, every rivalry as far as importance is local. But years ago me and my brothers went to a playoff game between Swain and Murphy just because of it rivalry plus you add the playoffs so I appreciate a good rivalry game no matter where.
I’d actually love to go back to a Mitchell/MH game I rather enjoyed it the year I went. It was a good game and atmosphere was good. Unfortunately, this year seems all the rivalry games or at least a lot of the area rivalry games fell on the same friday night. I was a bit shocked by this years Mitchell/MH score, I guess Andrew’s woke the Mountaineers up? On a side note not been back to Mitchell high school since we actually played them when I was there (that was one odd conference for all involved) but I always thought it was one beautiful place for a football game, I’d love to go back.
As far as that goes I wish could have experienced the Pisgah/Tuscola game once.

No insult taken, funny thing is my dad"s side of the family is from Yancey county. My dad graduated from Bee Log. I know that area well.

Well I certainly didn't mean any insult about the game or folks livelihood. I know Bee Log well some of my dad's best customers he had a flower shop in Burnsville from 1952 to 2003 when we sold it still has his name on it.

Another one I always got a kick out of in Yancey county is lick skillet. From what I was told got it name when a man driving his horse and wagon saw a dog licking out of a skillet.
That's right there with "Hard Scrabble", "Possum Trot", and "Roaring Fork". Thems my people though and as good as gold!
Listen I live right before you turn into “moonshine mountain” had some family that helped give it that name I’ve been told lol.

Lol I didn’t mean it in a demeaning way. I apologize it came across that way. It’s just since that loss Mitchell has rolled people. I know Andrew’s has a really good team this year, a lot of teams would/could lose to them. I really can’t figure 1A ball out this year in WNC seems several teams are around even. Btw I never see any of there fans on here so big shout out to Hayesville last night sounded like a great game and a good win for the Jackets.
Hayesville is better than their scores...a lot of young players with a steep learning curve early. Plus big D1 receiving target hasn’t been on the field an awful lot this year. He was last night and it makes a big difference—not just in terms of having an athletic 6-6 target, but also the attention he gets paid opens things up for others.

Pisgah/Tuscola is the clear number one rivalry, but I believe that Cherokee and the Refs at Hayesville have pulled into second place!
Don't matter why he is back now and Hayesville can possibly beat anyone they play with him on the field

The two calls in question were legit calls! Hayesville had more penalties up until the end of the game. First drive of the ballgame Hayesville had almost 40 yards in penalties. This was Mctaggart’s first game back in awhile, and he showed poise and lead the team with a couple of others. This is the first game they have played all 4 qtrs and fought till the end. With only five seniors (only 2 that actually see any significant playing time), the younger Jackets played great. Side note Cherokee quarterback is a big time player on both sides of the ball, also seemed like he is a great kid. He is fun to watch!

Just remembered I used to date a girl on a road in Yancey county called Bloody Fork. I never did ask the story behind that one.
Hey folks. I am reporter with Mountain Xpress newspaper in Asheville, and I am working on a story about the importance of high school football to communities in Western North Carolina, both now and historically. It's not a sports story per se, but more of a look at the culture surrounding football in these communities. I want to examine why football is important, how things have changed over time, the importance of rivalries, etc.

I think you'll get more than just A story from this if you got in touch with the coaches from Swain over the years. I think you could do an article for each school in the SMC and get more than your share of content.
