I think a lot depends on how much maintenance effort you put in. I have a self-propelled Craftsman front-wheel drive that is over 20 years old. Just recently replaced the rear wheels and did the drive cable earlier this year. Other than that, it's been a yearly oil change, spark plug every so often, and carburetor cleanup once or twice. Starts on the first (or second) pull. Front wheels are bald so that's probably the next move.
