Defense looked closer to vintage. Offense looked ok despite the refs and occasional missed throws. Toure is awesome. OL still doesn't runblock well but the talent is there to be great. I don't know what is going on with Culp but maybe he'll get his aim back. If this team shows up next week a huge upset is possible.

People IMO are underestimating how good Buffalo is. I still think we've got a ways to go but I think we're improving. Buffalo is a very good MAC team. A very good MAC team can give most B1G teams a run for their money most years.
This was the type of game plan I projected Frost would run this year. NEEDS to run the ball more than passes even if it is getting stuffed. This will open up the pass. The newest introduction on offense is desperately needed, the option and triple option. Has been used very successfully so far. The D continues to improve, 21 pressures (7 hits and 14 hurries) on the QB and 1 interception.
Not sure how this will translate into wins this season, but hopefully this team will surprise a few opponents.

No. Most MAC teams can do alright for awhile then end up getting beat handily. No Big 10 team should ever lose to a MAC team
If Buffalo played in the Big 10 I think they'd win a game or two every year. They are a very solid MAC team. The bottom line is we saw a completely different NU team from the Illinois game and one that could do very well going forward if they continue to improve.
They are better than Illinois. But that just makes me even madder about that week one debacle.

That was my concern last year. My theory is that he knew we couldn't have done worse than what we had coming into last year, so expectations and pressure was low and he excelled. Now he's the man and... Well, you know, the thing.
I know some are impressed with beating a MAC team but it needs to in context. In the process, of them throwing constantly, we had zero sacks - zero. And it's not like Chims didn't throw the kitchen sink at them.
I like the emphasis on getting running game going even when it wasn't working. Way too many running plays for loss, no gain or very minimal. For those who think the "holed were there" they weren't. We are not even close to imposing our will on the offensive line.
I won't even go in to special teams but they will just magically get better from reading posts.
We beat a MAC team and it was a typical 3rd quarter lethargic showing which kept the game, at least on the scoreboard, close. All of this in year 4 and with a D that could collect social security in a few years.

Agreed what a joke comment. Giving up a total of 3 points to anybody is fantastic in 2021 much less a solid team (that goes every team in every conference). I guess go back to your PlayStation game on easy settings…

The defense finally played a complete game from start to finish, so I'm happy with that. Really didn't think we could stop Buffalo's rushing attack like we did. Now let's keep it up on the defensive end against Oklahoma and not piss any semblance of progress down the drain.

I have not been this excited since Frost beat Northern Illinois & Illinois consecutively in year 2 and Rutgers in year 3 (unfortunately, Frost did not win consecutive games in 2020).

I don't think anyone believes this team is anywhere close to our past championship teams.
Although, On this board leading up to Saturday's game many were predicting a loss. It should be fine to appreciate some positives from a win, especially since wins will be hard to come by going forward.

Just FYI, it’s ok to think the defense played good yesterday. That doesn’t mean people are saying we are the second coming of 95, 96, 99 or even 2010… haven’t seen a single person claim that.
The defense did ok, but they are ranked 77th nationally against the run right now. That simply isn't going to cut it in the Big Ten.
I'm all for wanting to enjoy wins, but to get over the hurdle you have to take games like Buffalo as a "no **** we better curb stomp them" if you ever want to get back to the top of the Big Ten.

It is amazing to me how expectations have come to the point where beating a MAC and not looking particularly well doing it is something I am required to hold in high esteem.
Perhaps you should understand there are some people who understand what they are seeing and don't buy into feel good moments where everyone gets a trophy.

Probably. But we could have just avoided the ridiculous mental errors that kept them in the game too.
I'm not impressed with beating the MAC team but we handled them relatively easily. I was concerned that it could turn in to a shoot out. That Illinois loss pretty much destroyed any confidence in this team. It is still possible that this team gets better as the season goes on as they did in Frost's first year. Our O line has to get better if we're going to win any more games.
