Seems most everyone is on the edge of their seat waiting on Bagley to make an announcement. Mr. Dukehokie decided to change the talk to comparing the 04 vs 99 team. You're killing us hokie! Living thru those 2 games was bad enough the first time, now you go get everyone even more riled than we already were.
How about now we post what season during K's time that you think he did HIS best coaching? It's easy to pick one of his title teams, but I'm gonna go with the Grant Hill led 94 team. That team really had 1 star and a bunch of followers. Lots of good choices to pick from.

I agree.....I cant think of another team I could put in front of that one as far as what they did, with what they had.

I would also have to throw 2010 in there. For most of the year, I did not feel like we had a national championship team. Not saying we didn't have good players. There were several on that team that I really liked, but just never felt real confident about a title with them until it got close.

Getting the 1988 team to the Final Four was I think his best coaching job. Yes, Danny Ferry was a great college player but we all saw his limitations at the next level. 6'7" John 'Onionhead' Smith was the center and no offense Billy King was the SF.

2010 is the obvious choice.
Feel like the 2008 and 2009 teams deserve a shout out as well, those teams lacked the talent of other Duke teams, and we got a 2 seed both years.

Amazing 3 year stretch of coaching.

I think really getting the '86 team to the final game was a terrific coaching job. Really not great athleticism on that team, but a truly cerebral group.

Dawkins and probably David Henderson were our best athletes, and Alarie was a good athlete as well. However our inside game wasnt what I would call imposing and we had a 5 who was playing out of position.Still the chemistry was off the charts! OFC

Solid post you old fart. Really is the group that spring boarded the future that K has had. Not the ending we all wanted in 86, but it was the start of K's run where for a while it was Duke and the other 3 in Final fours, for what 86, 88-92, and 94?

I think the best have already been covered but I want to throw out 91. On the surface it sounds pretty silly with the team we had, but we did lose a couple of big names the year before (although we replaced them the Grant). They were blown out the previous year by UNLV and had to meet them again in the final four no less. Most people consider that team one of the best all time. After that win, K had to settle the team down and prepare for the championship after an emotional win. Nice bit of coaching imo

You must be a young whipper snapper! Thanks for the kind words and I think you nailed it w/"springboard." OFC

Any Duke team that got to the Sweet16 and featured a guy like Billy "The Skyhook" has to be acknowledged as one of K's best jobs.

Yeah but what made Billy "The Skyhook" so tough to guard was that he was amphibious. Just when you thought he was going right, he went left.

He was tough to guard too! He was the heir apparent to "Air Jordan" because he seemingly vanished into THIN AIR!:p
