Love this quote from Holloway, IMO we need more kids from the area:

"I've got guys from New Jersey and New York City. You think we're scared of anything? You think we're worried about guys trying to muscle us and tough us out? *We* do that. That's who we are."

They really do play like kids who've played at least as much basketball in the schoolyards as they have at the camps and clinics. Not that they haven't done those things, but a ton of playground, too.

Glad he said that. His on court interview was bizarre. Was asked about Jersey in his interview and answered, "I'm a New York guy. Jersey adopted me. But I'm a New York guy." Why would you say that in that moment?

I think this was more about having a chip on his shoulder for him and his team. In this case him. She didn’t even know where he was from. It would take 10 seconds to pull his bio up on her phone.

His response did seem a bit bizarre in the context of the moment and considering his connection to NJ schools. I was born and raised in NY, but went to college in NJ (not RU) and since have lived for decades in NJ. Consider myself a New Jerseyan which is why I’m such a big RU fan. But besides that, congratulations to St. Peter’s. Rooting for them. I think it will be difficult for them to beat the winner of Texas-Purdue.

She said “you’re a Jersey guy” to start the question. I’ve worked in NYC for 20 years, I’m still a Jersey Guy not a New York guy.
Sure but on national TV you let it go. He correcting her basically ended the interview. Bad ending

My wife is from Queens, but has lived in New Jersey for the last 15 years. When she heard him say that, she said, "See! It's not just me!" lol
So your wife was born and raised in NY. Didn’t have a choice, right? And then she chose NJ 15 years ago. Smart woman, just like my wife who also moved to NJ.

In fact, she CHOSE to settle down and raise our kids in Jersey.

For her, it's a difference between "where do you live" and "where are you from". She lives in New Jersey, she's from New York.

This comes up nearly every time we meet someone while traveling

Sounds like my wife. Lol. Over the years, I have slowly (and carefully) worn her down.

Also mine has lived in NJ longer than in NY, and she loves NJ and Rutgers. But it took a long time for her to stop saying she is from NY. I kept saying, “But you aren’t.” Lol!

If I went to live in Pennsylvania for 15 years, you can be sure that I would still say New Jersey if asked where I was "from", lol

So I get it

I have lived in PA for 35+ years. Of course, I'm still a Jersey guy, root for RU and Jersey/NY teams and root against all Philly teams (but not Pittsburgh, because that's where my daughter went).

I beg to differ. His best comment - and the best of the tournament - was his response to a question about being nervous. Shaheen said something like - No, this is just basketball.
I’ll do you one better. “I told these guys all year, ‘Nobody works harder than us.’ The stuff we put these guys through, this is easy. Practice is tough. This is easy.”

The main aspect here is that Holloway has got tough, street-smart players from NJ/NY. And they've stood up to some of the best players in the country.
Meanwhile we have specially selected "skill" guys from Sweden, NC, California, Maryland, etc who have produced virtually nothing.
