Bielema did the same thing to his O line his first year at Illinois. It worked. That said, the morale of these guys HAS to be AWFUL. Itās a losing mentality. Iām not putting this on Raiola. Just 2 weeks ago we had posters on this board saying that Raiola was too soft on his line. I pointed out that Raiola was very vocal in practice. I just laugh when I think about the way Tomās assistants could āmotivateā. Ultimately the peer pressure from pipeline members is what was the best motivator. Who do we have on that line that leads? I guess I donāt see them. Whoās our dom Raiola who will kick your butt if youāre halfassing it?I am starting to hear whispers that the OL has quit on Raiola. Apparently, from Day 1 has has berated them and torn them down, and they have had enough. There is a difference between coaching them hard (which I am in favor of) and berating them. And please, don't take any of this as a defense of players who dog it and don't give 100 percent.
Another words he doesnāt look like Tarzan and plays like Jane..Benhart is a bust. He has not gotten better and actually looks worse each year. He's just a big body with no idea how to use it effectively. This was a big recruit at the time but one of the worst examples of poor player development in the Frost years.
The question remains: Do we have any other choices on the bench? If we do, the OL coach should be shown the door.Is this new? He is the worst starting lineman I have ever seen at NU. A slob that does not belong
I bet there's a player on the bench that would give more than the 0% effort Benhart routinely displays on the field. The question remains: Do we have any other choices on the bench? If we do, the OL coach should be shown the door.
Can someone tell me WTF this is? I feel like one could make a NOT TOP TEN of his line play.
Yeah it's staggering. I guess I'd rather watch Anthony struggle now (or even surprise us). I think Benhart needs to ride the pine and find his way to the transfer portal. He hasn't worked out here. The only OL that has shown any improvement during Frostās tenure was Cam Jurgens, and he was an athletic freak. Hixson looks better I suppose. Countless teams put out better lines working with less talent.
Recruiting or development: coaching matters.
We blame Benhart, but why canāt Corcoran, Banks, Lynn, Miller, Conn, Anthony or any walk-on play anything resembling competent football at OT? The level of failure at the position group is astounding.
Canāt wait to turn the page.
