Would be interested in a clear understanding of what the benefit is in playing OU? Probably about 5% chance of winning, 15% chance of keeping it close and 80% chance of getting rolled on national TV... I guess maybe we are playing for the payout?

I’m guessing the answers will be if the “man up” variety.. but if anyone can make a business case for it, I would love to hear it...

History. That’s it. The only plus.

one could argue that playing the game could be disrespectful to the game of the century, as this could easily turn into a boat race

The old saying...people that don't get it, don't even get that they don't get it....applies to anyone who thought backing out was a good idea. If it has to be explained to a person how not being a quitter is better than being a quitter, you're an idiot.

You're acting like this is something we don't want. We decided some years ago to schedule this series. It's not my fault that Scott Frost can't field a respectable team. Are you suggesting that we back out of any contest that we don't have a good chance of winning? The cries of a loser.

What is the benefit of playing the game? For starters, they are a team on our schedule. Usually, you play the teams you are under contract to play, barring some strange circumstance, like the lightening storm for the Akron game. OU is also an elite P5 team with whom we have a huge history. That means we are choosing to play against the best. That is a good thing. That is a benefit even if we lose. Those on here who want us to go the Bill Snyder route are insulting our proud heritage. KSU had been up to that time one of the worst D1 football programs of all time. Snyder had to flip a 50 year script. We have to flip a five year script. We have a powerful tradition. Playing OU says we are not afraid of playing the best.

Shame on Moos and Frost.

it's a marquee name and a rivalry with plenty of history

national media will be talking about Nebraska for the entire week leading up to this game

that kind of exposure obviously doesn't come with playing lame B1G west teams or cupcake non-con opponents

now I fear the main thing national media will talk about is NU trying to back out. Gonna be a week of horrible press

OP's premise is fine if you want to use that logic not to schedule the game to begin with....but we signed a contract and made a deal....With that stupid stunt....Frost announced he knows his days are numbered. That's what is flying over everyone's heads who were OK with this. Frost will be our coach for one more opener, maybe two, tops, and he's gone. When you do what he did you don't come back from it. So he is now on an egg timer, maybe that timer is one season, two at the most, but we are now in the market for a new coach whether it's been made official or not, it's just a matter of time.

There is value in playing quality opponents... you see where you need to get to. Same reason it’s good to get young guys experience

Many of us on this board are old enough to remember '96 and '97 when NU hung 60 or 70 points on OU. They didn't back out of the games...they hired Bob Stoops in '98.

this game is all about the future. it's a chance to explain and show younger generations about what was once the premiere game in the country and what can and will be two blue blood programs in the future. dont play the game and none of kids today have any idea or way of knowing just how great these programs have been and can be in the future.
