Man I noticed that too! Has it been awhile since we had multiple dudes that looked like that?

But can he get to the QB?
If he doesn't it's the 3-4 scheme we're running most of the time. We do run a LOT of 4 man fronst though and send OLBers quite a bit too. Tough for the front 3 of a 3-4 to get much pressure by themselves. 2 of the 3 guys are going to get tag teamed if you don't send 4 or 5. I'm more interested to see if we can limit run plays to less than 3 yards this year.

The lack of pressure has been a HUGE issue during Frost's tenure. We just get picked apart by QB's sitting comfy in the pocket. No one can cover receivers that long. We play a lot of straight-up defense with no blitz's and I think it kills us, especially on 3rd and long. Every time we'd have a team in a 3rd and 10+ I'd say out loud, "uh oh, they've got us right where they want us." It was ludicrous how often they'd get a 1st down.

Illinois offensive line is a weak point. They have 2 transfers coming in to fill gaps and depth is weak. I say Chin puts massive pressure on them up front to disrupt their backfield. Press those receivers and hit those run blitzes. Let's see how good their quarterback can improvise.

Man I hope so! We should have corners that can cover one on one, so bring the pressure!!

We run plenty of blitzes. They get stopped almost immediately because guys have no idea how to fight around a block.

I think JoJo when he was healthy was pretty good at getting to the QB. That said, we had so many injuries in the secondary and backers that we weren't maybe sending an OLB or DB as much as we might this year with the depth we've built. I'm pretty excited to see what we can do with our D now with the health and depth we've built across the board on defense. I think this will be our best D since we had Suh and Crick together.

The trouble is even when we do blitz we rarely get to the QB.

Totally agree, but pick your poison. The answer isn't to rush 3 and sit back in coverage and give the QB as long as he wants. I have a lot of questions headed into this season but the area I'm most hopeful about is that we'll finally see a non-embarrassing pass rush. This garbage of allowing a 40% 3rd down conversion rate has to stop.

I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to the defense. We haven't come anywhere close to being a top 30-40 defense since Frost has been here. I don't think it'll happen this year either. If we want to compete in the Big 10, at minimum that's where we need to be.
