He has all the physical tools to be an All American his Jr and Sr years. But after reading his comments in an OWH article he has the heart and desire to take him to the Wistrom level. He was one of the few who never quit last year. Can't link article on my phone but if someone would its Dirks article. GBR

I’m going to play the percentages and say no.

I highly doubt he will be the Lombardi winner. 2 time all American. 3 time 1st team all conference. 2 time conference def player of the year and a top 10 NFL draft pick

Pretty confident he’s not going to be the next Grant Wistrom.

Knowing Ben If you told him that, he not only would do those things, he would write you a nice letter afterwards telling you thank you for the motivation.

Don't put anything beyond his reach.

Its not a slight to him. Its a n underappreciation of wistrom and just how good he was. Ben can be a great player, play in NFL and not reach wistrom status.

Wistrom is one of the 5 greatest Huskers of all time. In fact, if you want to argue about the greatest Husker defenders of all time, the list probably goes:

1. Suh
2. Wistrom
3. Mike Brown
4. Barrett Ruud
5. Rich Glover

Then you can can make a case for the next tier:

- Larry Jacobson
- Ralph Brown
- Lavonte David
- Neil Smith
- Trev Alberts

Ben Stille can develop into a potential All Conference player. He will probably even become a next level player. But he is not the caliber of player to be one of the all time Husker and College football greats.

Love Ruud, but hard to put him in the Top 10

1. Suh
2. Glover
3. Mike Brown
4. Wistrom
5. Neil Smith
6. Lavonte David
7. Trev Alberts
8. Ralph Brown
9. Larry Jacobsen
10. Tom Novak
11. Polk
12. Booker
13. Minter
14. Prince
15. Clark

A good case could be made for Ruud somewhere between 9-15. But that still leaves off guys like: Rucker, Bullocks, Van denBosch, Demario, Fabian Washington, the Peter brothers, etc.

Dam I miss the black shirts.

With full respect sir, I think J. Murtaugh should easily be on one of your two lists.

Barrett Ruud is the All Time leading tackler in Nebraska history. He's easily top 5. If I missed on anyone, it was probably no Murtaugh.
Ruud was the beneficiary of a kind statistician and was not as good as those numbers would indicate.
Agree to disagree.

I'd put Farley in the top 3 ahead of Mike Brown.

No. Top 3 when he pissed away his senior year drunk and kicked off the team? AMAZING athlete and LB. But pissed away potential. Eric Warfield is another favorite of mine that pissed away potential with alcohol. Warfield played in the league but likely could have been a pro bowler without the sauce.

If anyone puts out a top 10 defensive list, Big Bob Brown has to be on it. ( of course back then he played both ways)

I will just go back as far as I can remember, and I would wager a guess that it will be hard for Stille to crack the top 15 DE of the last 40 years at Nebraska. Again, nothing against Stille, I think he will be a nice player. People I think can forget about all of the great DE's that Nebraska has had over the years. If he can produce enough to get in to this discussion I think it would be great.

Derrie Nelson
Jimmy Williams
Broderick Thomas
Kenny Walker
Mike Croel
Neil Smith (More of at DT in college)
Travis Hill
Trev Alberts
Donta Jones
Dwayne Harris
Jared Tomich
Grant Wistrom
Mike Rucker
Chad Kelsay
Kyle Vanden Bosch
Chris Kelsay
Jay More
Adam Carriker
Barry Turner
Pierre Allen
Randy Gregory

These are just defensive ends, a couple of the more under rated of this group I think are Vanden Bosch, Donta Jone,
Mike Croel and Kenny Walker.

G. Andrews was an excellent DE also.

Agree, Stille is basically same height but a little quicker and faster. Stille is also 40lbs heavier and significantly stronger than Wistrom.
