I still wish Paul would use his 6-7 frame and take FAR more stop and pop jump shots at the elbow and after a screen.
Yesterday he could have tried a half dozen but continued inside only to throw up wild looking floating one handers, two were air balls.
If you want to consider this post complaining after a win, so be it.

Creating and making shots off the dribble is a skill set lacking in most Rutgers players.Simpson has that skill set but is still learning the difference between high school and college basketball.

He doesn’t need to create.
He has a splint second after the screen and 6-7 allows him to pull up after one dribble

Because he doesn't do it 😝
He got caught on the baseline a few times yesterday against an inferior opponent,
Good teams realize if they’re denying the underhand pass inside, the only place left is the opposite corner. that’s a turnover when well defended

I think he doesn't take that shot bc he still wants to see if a pass will open up first and would rather try to work some magic with his pivot foot if it doesn't. He really should be taking and making that shot a couple times a game. It would open things up more

How is a quick jump shot from the elbow not his game?
Have you ever seen him take that shot? I see Caleb take those all of the time. It would be nice if Caleb could pass like Paul and Paul could defend like Caleb / Mag and Mag could dunk like Cliff and Cliff could shoot 3’s like Cam and Cam could rebound like Hyatt. They all do certain things very well. It’s never too late to add to the arsenal but typically that’s in the off-season.

Totally with Zappaa here. Paul needs to shoot more period. There is nothing wrong with a mid range game for your point guard and get him from 7-8 points to 12-14 a game. Would be huge for us. Like Zappaa I do not think they can defend him there. When he over dribbles or over penetrated and throws up an off balanced or fade away shot that hurts us. Our guard coaches have to get it out of him this year despite his tendency to resist shooting.

I'm fairly sure Paul's shoulder is bothering him and will all year. He's only attempted 7 three pointers. I don't think he's out to do anything that he's not very comfortable doing already.

Paul needs to be more selfish. That pull up jumper is hot he should take,,, especially early in the game. It will open up passing lanes later in the game. Also, passing up an open shot is potentially putting the team In a worse spot. You need to make a good pass, the player has to catch it and then get himself in position to take a better shot then the one you just passed up

When I saw this thread's title all I could think of was "It's deja vu all over again".

However, if he would take that shot at times it would open up passing lanes later in the game when opponents have to guard both.

Indubitably.
And avoid finding himself in no man’s land where the baseline acts as a 6th defender
