Just as an historical aside, I’d note that the Cardinals were also once considered the West’s team.

A big reason why the Cards developed such a huge fan base is because for a long period of time they were both MLB’s southern-most and western-most team. Thus they basically became the flagship team for country folk in rural middle America ( ie. the anti-Yankees), as they were the only team those folks could get on the radio.

That’s why we call it the old “radio line” fan base. It’s why it’s the way it is. You’re right.

Grasshopper is a lot better made than a Dixie chopper. Much heavier and balanced. I looked at ExMark but they don’t move on price much haha! They are expensive and really good machines I hear.

I own a John Deere zero turn. ExMark is definitely the bad *** but really if it’s taken care of I think it’s all overplayed.

If I owned another landscaping business I would have nothing but ExMark though.

One of my favorite second baseman. Mr Herr for the others Begokers. Tommy for my man Grom.

I was a shortstop and second baseman up through first year of college. Really good with a glove. Pisses me off that middle infielders were expected to hit as the game progressed.

I was Dave Concepcion with a damn glove. Got moved to second because maybe my arm wasn’t what I thought it was haha!

Dad told me when I was young that second basemen were shorts without an arm and that hurt when it became reality.

True, but I always thought second base was so much more fun because it was less ground to cover and shorter throws. You could look like a total badass.

I was a pitcher in college. Pitch and first base in high school. I just seriously doubt anyone in the thread could hit me even today. I’m a young 36.

I could make contact I bet!

I relief pitched. I threw good and had decent movement and a natural cut on the fastball. I just was too emotional to start pitch. I could field, bunt and run though haha!

I didn’t post Ozzie because he’s too good and obvious for me. I’m 45 and he was a hero. Like poster in the bedroom hero.

Mab was always one of my favorites back then. And here on an old pinnacle card no less.

I love collecting pricey cardinals memorabilia from those eras. The Braves were in the middle of their best run (won 1 ring lol) and so I can fetch team signed balls of my childhood teams for like 300 bucks.

Last night this big oaf coach on the other team couldn’t throw the ball to the plate worth a **** (coach pitch). Big ole bum dumblin. He ended up passing the ball off and was sitting there with ice on him arm complaining about an old arm wresting injury.

I hate what travel ball has done to little league but I’m going to have to be part of the problem I guess. We’re moving to Bay St. Louis Mississippi this year and I’ve put in for……..The Bay St. Louis Cardinals!!! Gonna be sweet. My cousin who played for Oakland is going to help out through zoom workouts. Have quite a few parents down there ready to sign.

When I saw Bay St. Louis was open for a team down there you could imagine my thought process.

Travel ball is the AAU of basketball. I used to bite my tongue listening to some of these coaches. I found ways to subtly challenge but still keep the peace. Like work the kids that they aren’t working with on the side to “help”.

I convinced myself that I could take their second units and beat them with some time. I had a career I was progressing in though and worked hard to appreciated their time.

I was on the corners....3rd or 1st, but couldn't hit for ****. Learned early that that little white pill hurt like a mf-er when it hit me and never could break the habit of bailing out on the first sign of an inside pitch.

Good for you. I liked inside and was happy getting hit because the coach was happy I was on first, and knew I could steal second haha!

I remember when I was scared of the ball at a young age. I’m from a baseball family. Uncle drafted by the pirates but quit in AA ball. Cousin drafted by Oakland and pitched for 2 years for the A’s before throwing his arm out. The rest played college. So they legit made me stand there and hit me with the ball so many times I became immune.

I can still hear my dad saying “see, you’re alive and those kids won’t throw as hard as me so now there’s nothing to be afraid of”

Totally worked too, but would probably be seen abuse today. Mom would get mad as sht lol.

Something worse than Begok?

People who understand sports so little that they can’t understand why it’s okay for baseball players to brawl but not basketball players.

No Wokester, it’s not about race. Lol. I was listening to a podcast when the issue came up and race was named as the culprit.

How about because that ball is flying at your face at 102 mph and players have to regulate the game or people will die? Yes that’s different than Kevin Durant upset he was bumped from behind.

The **** kills me man. We’ve got some stupid people today that’s for sure.

If only I'd had a father who cared like yours...I coulda been a contender!

Couldn’t we all?

Wait? I had a badass dad…why didn’t I become contender haha

I feel like I do too, but he’s been bitter for years. Had to go to Vietnam instead of getting drafted himself. He was actually better than all of them.

He’s got an old shirt from the 70’s that says “I support the Vietnam war”. He kept it around pretty funny. Probably still has it honestly.

I’d kill to just stay in that era.

Never forget the 95/96 Pitino father son camp. Only around 10 families that I remember. Pitino came in one day and shot around the perimeter - didn’t miss a single 3. Probably 20/20. The guy could play too. That tie tho.

Can’t delete thread if it’s got Kentucky basketball in it 👀

You are just a little younger so you obviously couldn’t take yourself; I saw the 96 team in the 16/8 and the 98 team as well. The best era.

I also saw us **** a game away against Mich ST in your beloved St Louis in 99. Had a great time though and had a blast in the city.

im in St. Louis constantly and grew up going every year. Had a friend who’s never been just get back from a weekend and they’ve planned another already. People that don’t go don’t really know from what I’ve seen.

St. Louis is a great city all things considered. You need at least a week to get everything done especially if you have kids. The really dangerous parts aren’t actually “downtown stl” and in areas where you’ll be. Union Station was just renovated and it’s excellent. Personally we go to St. Louis over Nashville, Memphis, and definitely Atlanta.

Hell it’s known as a destination for great hotels.

Ballpark village for atmosphere is one of the best in the nation for any sport now.

The city museum took 30 years to build and is amazing.

The pics don’t do the museum justice. It’s like 5 floors of tunnels, massive animals made of iron or wood that you walk into and get lost all through the museum. Everything done by hand. It’s been Called the Disneyland of playgrounds. There’s a 4 floor slide in it that is pretty insane. I can’t do half of what’s on the top floor because it’s wild. Never seen a place for kids like it.

I think the atmosphere of St. Louis and the historical nature to the city makes it one of the best. And the traffic isn’t god awful
That museum is awesome when we were there a couple of times about 9 years ago when my daughter used to play competitive soccer. We stopped in there as a team and saw that museum it’s bad ***!

Hey man it’s gotten WAY crazier over the last 9 years. Y’all need to go back for real.

It’s honestly hard to believe it. I know adults that go without the kids lol.

Maybe this thread can figure out what happened to Gonzo. It’s okay to be wrong 10/10 times, that’s what rafters is for.
