Voltage installer come in, perform some work -which they did a very good job- and now they’d like to get paid, but, there’s a problem - the gov’t is shutdown. So, this vendor is eating about 20K worth of supplies and labor and cannot get made whole until the gov’t is open for business again. So I do not understand how having vendors go unpaid is good for anyone and why we continue to allow hard working Americans go unpaid for work they performed.

Oh and if you’re going to reply to this thread by posting someone else’s tweet - don’t..no one is really interested in them.

What is your solution? Neither side will budge. Yet.

Simple - fund the wall and provide protections for the DACA kids.....

Pelosi won't spend a single $ towards the wall, no matter the compromise. Trump won't accept anything without $5 billion for the wall. One or both have to give.

Not true, Fox News is reporting that Trump made a good faith request for 2.5 billion and the Dems balked at that.....and using the DACA kids is pretty good leverage for getting a deal done.....

1) Why is the government shutdown prevent you from paying your low voltage guy?
2) What work did they perform? $20k would be a complete whole house system with some audio, networking, cameras and automation.
3) Did they not require a deposit upfront?

1). Because the government agency they did the work for is closed, there isn’t any money, and there aren’t people to process the invoice
2) installed some fiber
3) No, that’s not how the gov’t works

My bad, I thought it was a private deal between you personally and a LV guy.

The money is there, it's been allocated, but as you mentioned, without staff to process invoices, there is not much that can be done.

Right, and so the contractor is getting the shaft.....I think that’s fairly crummy

That's totally unfair to that vendor.

The obvious solution would be to force the govt to pay a deposit up front but that wouldnt fly.

A lot of people dont do state or federal work because of nonesense like this.

I was going to say, if you are a government contractor, you should be used to 6 month delays.

I do, and on my jobs, with progress billing, we can billed for stored materials.

Unfortunately, there are cases where a sub may only have a single billing to do.

And I usually do progress Billings, but this job was so small we didn’t think about it. Whole thing is a raw deal for all involved.

Sorry to hear that. We got caught up in a Federal job during Obama's shutdown... it sucked.

Tell those Gofundme folks they need to pick up the pace.

Why don't the millions that support Trump's wall all pitch in with materials and labor and go down there and build it themselves? Of course most of them will have to be taught how to use a shovel, mix concrete, etc. But, hey, it'll be fun to watch and I would support it 100%.
