Should beat ASU at home. Steal another and they could actually go bowling.
I don't gamble on sports BUT IF I did, I wouldn't take OSU to win outright against ASU. Maybe they do. That really doesn't say anything about the mess Riley left us here.

Solich, Pelini, and Riley are all laughing.
I highly doubt Solich is laughing one bit. He loves Frost. Riley better not be laughing because he's got a huge hand in this fiasco. Pelini? He's got his own problems right now.

Dennis Erickson managed to go 18-6 in his first 2 seasons (1999 and 2000) and 31-17 over 4 years--largely with with Riley's players--- at Oregon State.

Time to stop blaming Riley. Not saying Frost should be canned, but he owns the show now.

Frost owns it but he's still paying for Riley's recruiting failures. Frost has been in Lincoln for a little over a year and a half. Riley left him 2 years worth of virtually empty recruiting classes.

But if Riley is the crap coach that everyone thinks, and can't recruit, how did Erickson win with Riley players?

I don't think he did...did he? Didn't DE grab lots of JC guys or at least some stud JC guys?
Of course.....not one of Riley's players contributed to winning the Fiesta Bowl. Got it.

Yeah...they got Houshmanzadeh and Ochocinco, who went on to play on Sundays. You and I both know that there guys that Huskers don't win NCs without that didn't do squat in the NFL. I suspect that DE also doesn't win without some of Riley's guys being contributors. H and O-C were good, but they weren't that good.

Let's say that Riley's Husker players are all garbage. If there are any of them not "buying in", lifting, etc., and yet Frost still keeps them around---let alone plays them--then isn't that still on Frost?

Nobody said that they are ALL garbage. On the other hand there's a reason we're starting a freshman at center and a walk on soph at guard. There's a reason our linebackers are struggling and we're playing a true freshman so much at outside linebacker. There's a reason there wasn't another quality scholarhip RB on the roster behind Devine. Riley left some enormous roster holes that Frost did his best to try to scramble and fill. I think it is somewhat remarkable how quickly he rebuilt the QB room but those kids need some time.

When Frost came there was a lot of turnover which created virtually empty classes. Is that on Riley?

How can you say Oregon State would do worse in the Big 10? Colorado is worst in the Pac 12, but they beat us.

Those classes were virtually empty not only because of Frost coming in but because the guys that left were poorly vetted for their talent. None of the guys that left have done anything yet at their new teams.

Oregon State just got beat 19-7 at home by a mediocre Washington team. I watched a good chunk of that game and it wasn't as close as the score would seem to indicate. As I posted earlier in this thread, it's likely that Oregon St won't win another game this year.

we are debating who is worse ... A Frost led Nebraska or a Jonathon Smith led Oregon State and it is a legit discussion

Tyjon, Gebbia, whoever else transferred there. Thought grass would be greener on other side of the fence. None are doing **** and have hardly seen playing time.
Tyjon and the linebacker play some but they're not exactly tearing it up.

I didn't start the thread but am refuting the idea that somehow Oregon State is in a better place than NU. I think Jonathon Smith will be a good coach for them long term. He's a good fit and bright young guy but there's no way Oregon State is in a better spot. The good thing for Smith is that he doesn't have the immediate pressure to win that Frost is facing.

agree ... Oregon State was in a much, much worse situation than Nebraska when Smith took over ( 7 wins the prior 3 years ) ..it is concerning that Smith is having roughly the same amount of success as Frost is into year 2

We've lost 3 games by one score this year. In each of those losses individual mistakes on 1-2 plays would have been the difference between winning and losing. When I've watched Oregon State there's been very little to make me think that they're remotely close to turning the corner. We've got some issues but IF Frost can get the QB issues ironed out I think we'll be fine. Then it's a matter of recruiting linebackers.

We hired Frost thinking he was elite. He has been humbled and has a lot of learning to do. I still think he can be elite one day. Oregon state can be good at best. Nebraska can win the west almost every year if ran correctly

Oregon States defense looked better than ours.
