Beating Michigan is not a statement win

Here are Michigan's claimed national titles from Wikipedia:

Claimed national titles11 (1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1918, 1923, 1932, 1933, 1947, 1948, 1997)

As you can see, in the last 70+ years Michigan is basically Iowa with a blue helmet and a lot more graduates capable of making phone calls to media outlets. We all know what would have happened to Bob Griese Jr. in 1997 if the B1G cared about real competition, so we can ignore that gift.

This is Iowa. Bill Moos's legacy came true: if you look around Michigan fans are running scared talking about inserting backups into the game just to spy 2AM. This is an expected win, not a signature win or a statement win. This is a return to normalcy.

I expect our front seven on defense to nullify Michigan's strength, which is their OL. Their peashooter QB will finally crack this game as he is introduced to the Blackshirts. I expect multiple fleaflickers in a desperate attempt to score.

More of a "must win" than a "statement win." Despite Michigan's ranking, I don't believe Michigan is that good this year. Barely beat Rutgers and probably lose to Penn State, Michigan State and Ohio State. They are probably about the 25th best team in the country, not top 10. If Frost is going to keep his job, he needs to win this game on Saturday. A loss means best case scenario is a 6-6 season. Does 6-6 possibly 6-7 after a bowl loss save Frost's job? Doubtful.

Is this post sarcastic? I actually can't tell. When's the last time we beat a ranked opponent? If you don't think this is a statement win you're delusional

That's a pretty ridiculous take on Michigan. Trying to ignore the absurdity that this is a must win game.

Michigan is not Iowa. They may not be Ohio State-good and I may not like them but don’t stoop that low on ‘em 😁. Beating Michigan would be the biggest win of Frost’s tenure and set up Scott’s last 5 games with serious momentum.

If Nebraska comes out with a fiery start, all bets are off. I’m not seeing 56-10, but I’ll take a flyer on Harbaugh not being ready for a rowdy night game in Lincoln.

Also, nobody else can be Iowa but Iowa. Their fans are in a douchemode of their own right now.

Well everyone can judge things for themselves with their own criteria of course BUT if Nebraska should actually beat Michigan, I personally would consider it the most significant win of the Frost tenure. Any time you beat an undefeated ranked team, that's always good.

Now of course the problem is (as much as I would like Nebraska to beat Michigan) I think the odds of it happening unfortunately are pretty low this year. Beating a down on its luck Northwestern team just isn't the same thing.

Michigan and Nebraska are both programs living in the past. Both blue blood programs . When you poke fun at Michigan, what does that say about us ? It would be a huge win for the team and fanbase, no way to underestimate it.

Explain to me what is ridiculous about my statement? Michigan probably lose 3 games(4 if we beat them) this year. They are a good team, but not a great one.

As for this being a must win, how is that absurd? What do you think the standard is for Frost to get another year? I would assume at minimum he needs to have a winning season. Since beating Ohio State and Iowa are pretty tall orders and we should beat Minnesota and Purdue, this game and the Wisconsin game are really to decide if we have a winning year. I just don't see Frost sticking around after a 4th straight losing season.

It is crazy though. If you told even the biggest frost supporter that we would lose every game after the michigan game, they probably agree he should have been fired. Nobody saw a 1-8 big record this year
