I thought by now their rumor mill would be tossing some big name coaches’ names out. Not even any speculation. This isn’t like them.

They feel like it is Will Healy. If it is he may work out but it shows OM still isn't in a position to get a big name coach.

wyatt had an interview with parrish alford and their new AD is keeping the search in a VERY small circle between the search firm, the AD, and a few potential confidantes. In the past with Boone, everything was out in the open. Only a handful of people know so everything it blatant speculation if something comes out.

pretty smart move. Savvy.

Not that small. It is pretty public now that they are after Healy.

Surely Coach34 is in that small loop so he can float some names to the public?

Here’s the deal: ole miss people cannot understand this but no one wants this job. It’s why they had to settle for Matt Luke

You know what that means.... Carter will dissolve the search committee and name himself coach.

Healy would be a huge gamble and a pretty unimpressive hire. They'd have been better off keeping Luke for another year, paying much less in buyouts and taking their chances on hiring their next coach next year.

If they are smart they will try to get Bryan Harsin but I highly doubt he would be interested

The latest name to get added to the process is the Notre Dame OC. I don't know anything about him other than that. I would imagine things will be a quiet week since most of their supposed top cadidates play in games this weekend.

He was Norvell OC at Memphis. Came to Memphis with him and then left to to go ND for same position. If I was at a school being successful whether it was Memphis or Boise State making 3 mill a year no way would I jump in the SEC unless the money was stupid. Norvell is getting 2.8 and I guarantee they will give him a nice raise to stay.

if Matt Luke and Hugh Freeze had a baby together, that baby would look exactly like Will Healy:

Healy set Hud up for a big year at Austin Peay (was coach of the year last year I believe) and had a great first year for Charlotte and where they have been. He is so young and stepping all the way into the SEC is a gamble but I can see why someone is reaching down a little further than normal in their position for someone is rising pretty fast up the ranks. Honestly if he does well for another year or two at Charlotte, he will get plucked for a P5 job.

Ahhhh… That makes sense. They can't get Norvell so they go for one of his former coordinators

Healy is extremely well thought of, but Ole Miss may be reaching a little bit on him IMO. This is his first year coaching fbs football in any capacity, and he is 34 years old. Could work out great but the guy has zero experience at all in big time college football- I don’t think he is qualified to get an SEC head coaching job at this point.

It would be a gamble but they may be thinking let’s go get him before someone else does.

In the last 24 hours I’ve seen reports by 3 separate media outlets that OM will hire:
1. Mike Norvell
2. Billy Napier
3. Will Healy

No information is getting out, so it’s wild speculation season. I’m sure we will wind up hiring a coordinator that no one has ever heard of.

Lack of talent depth and the schedule next year will keep two of those candidates away. If I’m Betting today it’s MM. Norvell will take a bigger job or a better positional job

It’s an interesting market right now... there’s not as many openings as there typically is, it doesn’t seem like. So, Ole Miss is basically competing against Florida St., Arkansas, and Missouri. FSU is the clear #1 job out of those 4. After that, I don’t know that OM isn’t #2. It’s certainly debatable, but Arkansas is an absolute dumpster fire. Their roster is not good, and their recruiting class is 118th (which is hard to fathom). Missouri is in the East, which helps, but I don’t think they’re as committed to football as OM or Arkansas. Subpar facilities, fan support, etc.

Ole Miss definitely has some depth issues, but there is some high level talent in spots. And a decent recruiting class to work with, although it’s getting worse by the hour. I’d love to think Keith Carter was saavy enough to recognize that this may be a favorable market to hire a coach in, given there’s not a lot of high profile openings. But, I think it may just be a lucky circumstance.

With all that said, there’s no doubt that the Ole Miss fanbase thinks the job is more attractive than it actually is. I think most fanbases are guilty of that. FSU seems to be getting a dose of reality, too. Which, ironically, may lead to them settling for Norvell and prevent Ole Miss from getting him.

Napier's offense, at least at ULL, is very heavy run centric. Doesn't seem to be a good fit with what OM normally wants to do on offense which is throw it around the yard.

Understatement of the year.

In one season as Charlotte head coach (his only in FBS at any position), he improved the 49ers from the 110th best team in the country to 104, per FPI.

Arkansas is #2 on that list. Let's not kid ourselves. That's a better job than either UM or MSU (which are about equal). Yeah, they've got some real problems now due to some very poor coaching hires. But they've got more money than both of us combined, and even though their state doesn't produce as much talent as Mississippi, they are the only major school.

Lol, Shamoan. I know you're upset with our admin, but please, there's no reason to give OM Admin any credit for being "savvy" yet. I'm judging a book by its cover here, but their new AD seems like the typical OM douche.

No way Ark is a better job than OM. Roster, recruiting footprint, culture (as in actually playing hard).

I disagree. They have a harder rebuild no doubt and the recruiting state is not great but we have to split recruits in this state so that evens out a good bit. But they definitely have the financial backing and resources to be stronger than they are and stronger than UM. But they do have a pretty big hole to dig out of
