That I agree with. There are so many glaring needs on this roster that need to be filled that looking to draft one is too far down list.
Don’t you think Poles would get crucified for trading Fields even if it’s not his guy? Fields has been a glimmer of hope for this suffering franchise. I’m not even a Bears fan and I say build around him.

Oh yah I do. If you draft a QB you’re essentially setting up for another 2-3 win season. Clearly fields is not a finished product. But what you have with him is a base to build from. He clearly got better from last year. If he makes those strides in the passing game next year it’s scary to think how good he can be. He showed signs of it just needs to take the next step

Really what QB did it all season 1 or 2 and brought a winner? I think he’s on the right track. Just block for the kid.

This season was close to a wasted year in terms of Fields improvement in the throwing game, particularly most of the second half of it. Blame the o-line, receiving corps or accentuating his running ability, if you will, but little progress was to be seen in the air.

His QB rating increased this year. That happened with a worse OL and a bunch of College of DuPage WRs. Put him on the Lions or Washington and they are a legit threat.

Perfect world, all the QB's look great in scouting/camps/combine/ pro day. Everyone assumes Houston wants a QB, so a teams desperate for "their guy" trades up to make sure the get ahead of Houston. Bears get extra picks, and don't even drop that far. Could even be Houston trading to move 1 spot, just to make sure they get their guy.

Mock drafts typically aren't worth the "paper" they are printed on, but this one actually has them trading down twice, and stacking all kinds of picks.

I like the concept of trading down twice to accumulate more picks. The first trade in that mock draft nets a haul of picks. I think they would get more than just a swap of 1st rounders and an additional 2nd rounder in the second trade, though. IMO, the ideal would be getting the Texans to swap 1st round picks this year, then trading that 2nd pick to another team....maybe the Colts at #4. They'd stay in the top 4 this year and also have a haul of additional picks.

Two things scare me on Fields and makes me question if he's our answer:

1: A lot of his game this year was backyard football. Pocket breaks down and he runs around and either gets a big run or finds a receiver downfield. This isn't sustainable nor works when you really need a play.
* Bears rushing statistics were great this year but a lot of the yards were from plays like the above. Felt like fools gold.

2: 1-7 in (1) score games. Several times this year we had an opportunity late in the game to have a big drive and win games but never were able to.
* Fields passing game never appears in rhythm. It's never three/five steps and ball out on time.

Trubisky was always a question mark as we always wondered if his supporting cast failed him and if the system was falling him. We are doing the same thing with Fields now.

I'd like to see the Bears trade the first pick for more picks and go all out to surround him with talent and see what we got in him. Very likeable guy and seems like a great leader. He's a guy this fanbase could really champion.

I thought we went over this already. The head to head basically didn’t matter. The Texans have had a tie since week one. The Bears and Texans were never gonna tie for worst record.
If the Bears and Vikings had tied yesterday with the Texans win, the Bears and Texans would have ended up with the same record and the Texans would be drafting in the number 1 spot.

can't believe Lovie went for 2 and the win yesterday. If they tied they still would have the #1 pick.

Not only that, but this is the first time they’ve actually earned #1. The other two came via a trade and as a lottery pick
Does that count this upcoming draft or not? Was going to ask roughly the same question.

I do know that the bears first 1 overall pick came waaay back during 1936… Jay Berwanger a Heisman Trophy winner. This was the first ever selection in the first nfl draft.

What’s great about that draft selection, is that Berwanger played a grand total of ZERO snaps for the Bears due to contract dispute!

You play to win the game, tanking in general is stupid and usually backfires when you try to do it.
I agree w you.

I’m referring to the balls it took to go for two when he could have went for one and tied and still got the #1 pick.
He probably got fired for it.

Perhaps in the heat of the moment he thought he might save his job if they converted.
Imo it was just Lovie trying to compete.

Lovie was gone regardless of 1st or 2nd pick in my opinion. Just like with Culley, he was always going to be 1 and done I think.

This is possible which begs the question, why didn’t they fire him before the game?

Why let someone coach who you are going to fire when the #1 pick is on the line? He cares more about winning a meaningless game then the #1 pick.

He did it because he was getting fired and it was leaked to him. Lovie hooks up Bears nation on his way out the door!
I buy the leaked to Lovie… As to why didn’t they fire him before the game? Any “interim” head coach is going to try and win regardless.

I don’t think any assistant under Lovie is saying, “Ok Mr. McNair, I probably won’t be here as a coach next year, but let me throw the game as a 1 or couple week interim HC as I try to find a new job next season”.

Exactly. In other words it was never gonna happen.

Who is going to hire him as a head anywhere at this point? He has pretty much proved that he doesn't have IT.

I see him as an assistant from here on out.
Present-day appetites for equity/diversity in the head coaching ranks may dictate otherwise?

In that regard, he will likely get interviews so that teams can pay lip service to the DEI thing, but I can't imagine any GM in his right mind offering a HC position to someone who has gone 8-24, 17-39, and 3-13-1 in each of his last three head coaching gigs.

Agree I don’t see Lovie getting hired as a HC again in NFL.

I would agree with you. I don't see Lovie being a HC anywhere else. Maybe he will retire.

Equity....another word hijacked by the left. Equity without excellence is emptiness.

Sox, Bears, Cubs, Hawks are all equally meaningless to me. The only thing left is high school football.
Sadly I agree lately. I had so much fun following HS football this season. Every single Chi pro sports team is completely uninspiring right now! Maybe except the Sky.
