It’s an interesting point. I don’t see them forgoing the future even if they win 9-10-11 games. Little tweaks along the way? Sure. But it seems clear they have a plan and they are sticking with it. What I think would be interesting is if they hit the midway point with 6-7 wins do they kick the tires on OBJ?

The Bears still need to focus on building through the draft. Pace gave so many draft picks away to make up for his mistakes and gave up future picks because he knew his time was over.
This team needs to play around .500 this year and then stock up on draft picks.
Actually regardless of record this year, we just need to see growth in our young QB.
That was awful yesterday. But I didn't watch the whole game. I turned it off at halftime and went outside. I wasn't going to waste such a nice day.
Did a few things in the garage then decided to fry some chicken tenders for dinner. I did, however turn the game on the radio, although I wasn't paying strict attention to it. The best part of the game was the post game show on WGN with O'Bradovich and Hampton. I haven't listened to the local post game since Buffone was with O'Bradovich.
Those guys are hilarious although they aren't trying to be funny. But, they were spot on. I forgot how crazy O'Bradovich gets.

I dont know. Ship him back to OSU. I really dislike QBs who go to the bench and look to the sky overwhelmed.

The Bears are an organization in disarray and it's not something that started last week, last year or ten years ago. It has been the Bears signature look for the last 35 years. Look what Belichick was able to do last night with Rookie 3rd string qb from Houston Baptist and Western Ky playing in his first game. NE came close to beating GB at Lambeau.

Definitely not all Field's fault with this offensive line and agree the Bears have totally failed Chicago fans for a long long time. Whether bad coaching, bad draft picks, or simply poor athletes it's a disgrace given how other teams in the division (minus Detroit) have won time and time again, including Super bowls.
To be fair, the division in aggregate has won only 3 Super Bowls from 1985 to today (85 bears, 96 packers, 10 Packers), with the Vikes only making it as far as the NFC-C 3 times and losing in the same span.
I am not going to blame everything on Fields but I will say he does not check off well at all. If his primary receiver isn’t open he can’t find the open player. I don’t know if this can be fixed. I am not going to blame the offensive line. They have their issues but they are not the reason. The biggest issue is the Bears defense. The d-line can’t stop the run period. The only bright spot is our kickers! Lol
Don’t get me going about the offensive and defensive coordinators. If we’re giving early grades they both get an F.
I disagree somewhat with you, Corey. Yes, the Bears are last in run defense. But they have given up an average of 19.25 points a game and that is quite good in the NFL. To me, wins and losses come first, followed by points scored and given up. I do realize the other numbers can lead to points scored and given up. But points given up and scored lead more directly to wins and losses.
I think, without question, the offense is a bigger problem. Funny you said Fields can't check off. Wifey and I were watching the first half and Fields went back to throw and his first read was covered. Then he panicked. I said just that to wifey.
On offense, the Bears are averaging 16 points scored a game and have scored more than 20 once. That is pathetic and they are lucky to be 2-2. While they are running the ball well, their passing game is Gawd awful. Fields is near or at the bottom in the NFL in several passing categories and the 50% completion percentage is especially troubling since they don't throw the ball down field much at all. Granted, his line is bad and he doesn't have many targets to throw to. But, I see him making the same kind of mistakes Trubisky was making. One is his apparent inability to check off the first read. In short, the Bears have a ton of issues and it starts on offense...as usual.
I am sure everyone knows by now, but Mitch Trubisky was benched at halftime on Sunday and officially lost his starting job yesterday to Kenny Pickett. Mr. Pickett threw 3 picks in the second half but I think it's time to give him the job and take whatever lumps come from it.

Mac’s numbers are still better than Fields. You can keep making excuses but you know he is the better NFL QB. 2.4 seconds. Yes that’s what it takes for Mac Jones to get rid of the ball. Jones did have better stats than Fields last year, I certainly dont disagree Corey. He’s also got a 2/5 TD/INT ratio this season.

Jones is a system QB in a solid, proven system. Fields is on his second HC and second OC in a systemless organization. He has the worst offensive talent in the league around him and a first year OC running things. To compare how Jones has done under that coach and system vs Fields and what he’s under isn’t a fair comparison. How would Fields do under Belicheck and Jones here? Who knows.
I called it right after the draft. Look at the beginning of this thread. I am not giving up on Fields yet but he better start hitting second and third reads and doing it quickly. He is holding the ball way to long. No offensive line can hold there blocks 5-6 seconds. Fields is eyeing down his primary receiver and aiming his throw. He is not throwing the ball he is aiming the ball. It’s like he has no confidence in his throws.

He has almost no time to find his first read (which seems to never be open) much less his 2nd or 3rd one.
As for confidence….if you are hit/sacked on 50% of your throws you would probably lack a bit of mental fortitude as well. Look, I want Fields to succeed as much as anyone but we must be pragmatic regarding what is around him.
We went to the Houston game. Fields didn’t see open guys on several plays. He was even throwing the ball late to his primary receiver when they were wide open. Believe me it’s a problem and I don’t know how a coach can fix that?

He completed 70% of his passes his SR year in Columbus. 67% his first year. I’d say he can see the field when not under duress. Try getting hit every other time you drop back and try to have the chops to make your progressions.
Where do you suggest he get rid of the ball to? Doesn’t that time also indicate no WR is getting open? You are also assuming WRs are open. Sure, he’s missed some but when he’s not under duress his numbers are fantastic.
Saw this stat after last game. With a clean pocket Fields was 10-14 for 168 yds and a 90+ QBR. He was 1-8 with 7 sacks under duress.
This is the nfl, nobody gets a clean pocket the whole game, but still it’s night and day with Fields whether under pressure or not. Idk if thats a good thing or a bad thing for his development to be honest.

It’s not that important to me. If you want to blame the Bears O-Line for the QB go ahead. I am a pretty good judge of what I see in a good QB.
Question what team has the best OL in the league? Let’s put Fields behind them and see if he can find the open receiver. I am not sure we would see any improvement and I would bet he still holds the ball for 5 seconds. He is slow to throw the damn ball and that tells me he doesn’t see the open receivers. He is even slow or late to make the pass to his primary receiver, checking off to pass to the second option is almost impossible. That’s why he takes off running.
Really so he makes pass completions when not under duress? I think every QB in the NFL can complete passes when they are not under duress heck they all do that in practice all the time. I watch fields miss throws that were easy screens to the TE. Anyone paying attention sees it. I don’t know what the answer is but we’re invested now with Fields so I hope he can correct this issue otherwise we’re going to be hunting for a new QB. Honestly I don’t want that. That would really suck.
The Bears are like bit players in a movie. Just there to fill a space but not having a major role. One of many lackluster teams to fill one of 32 spots.
No. The point is he needs to improve 100%. And there is a ton of room to improve. But to imply, as you have done repeatedly, that he is the lone problem, is myopic and shows your understanding of the game. The QB play sucks. The OL play sucks. The WRs are way worse than the QB and OL. That is not a good equation.
By your reasoning you would have kicked Josh Allen to the curb. Does he suck too?
I never said it is just the QB. Read my earlier post. It’s not just Fields. The OL isn’t perfect, the D-Line isn’t great. The offensive play calling is bad. The Defense can’t stop the run and the secondary at times are confused.

I agree with you. But, like some posters here, the Bears stubbornly believe they can draft a QB and build around him. It has worked for some teams in the past. You just have to hope your QB doesn't get maimed in the process if you're going to take that road.
And to you two talking about Fields...I was saying the same things when the Bears had Trubisky and Cutler. Didn't matter much if either QB was the answer, the OL was awful for these guys at times and they, for the most part, had very few weapons to get the ball to. It has been a recurring problem with that sorry organization. The OL is usually **** more often than not and other than some of the RBs, the receivers suck...for the most part. Same ****, different GM, coaches and players.
