You would hope the GM keeps a short list of HC candidates at all times so he’s not starting from scratch.

Absolutely, but in my eyes this initial process is to open the lines of communication should they not get a guy from their short list.
I mean they can't talk to guys in person who are still playing until Monday so if the options to interview other potential coaches or sit on their hands and do nothing until next week I'd be making a bunch of calls too.
I get where you’re coming from. I just think if you interview everyone in the league coaches are going to start questioning the people holding the interviews. Honestly I have come to my top 3.
1. Pete Carrol. Super Bowl and College 2x National Championship coach plus a players coach. He would change culture and demand respect. He would also get players buy in and I feel they would rally around him. He is a vocal motivator. Yes he is 73 years old but has more experience than any other candidate plus he is the most high energy old dude you would ever see.
2. Mike McCarthy. Super Bowl experience and playoff coach. Not as vocal as Pete Carrol but demands respect and will hold players accountable. Wealth of experience winning with two teams.
3. Ben Johnson. Offensive guy with no experience at HC. Seems like the hot choice with being successful the past two years in Detroit. This guy seems on paper to be the next young HC to succeed but it is some what of crap shoot with no experience being a HC in the NFL.
The reason I check the box on the experience is they both have winning records and are proven on more than one occasion at the college level or NFL. If either of these guys don’t bring culture and winning to the Bears it will because the entire organization. If they pick Johnson and get him, then if he fails they will blame him. It’s a tough position for a younger inexperienced HC to handle. Just my opinion but it is Da Bears!

The Bears hired Treatment in 2013 when Andy Reid was available.
2015 John Fox when Quinn was available (not bad, IMO)
2018 Nagy over Vrabel and Gruden (ended up being bad for non-football stuff)
2022 Eberflus over O'Connell and Bowles
Let's see how 2025 shakes out. Vrabel already gone again.

Also. Hard to give a specific number, but there are clearly extra interviews being given. Why interview OCs and DCs with low success units? There should be a concentrated approach. You know the don't have a plan because there has not been a clear message about what they are looking for

What would that message look like? You're getting upset way too soon. Again, they can't interview their top candidates in person yet so you don't know what their message is yet. Let's see how the next 2 weeks play out before going off the deep end.

Also, if he needs all those things to be successful how can he be that good? The great ones make those around them better. If he needs to be in an ideal situation to succeed then he's part of the problem.
Just stop. It was the right pick it still is the right pick. Daniels is with a better staff with a better OL. Daniels has had a historic season - I still would’ve picked Caleb. Many people said the same thing about stroud after year one. He was meh this year. If Daniels does this every year from here on out good for him. I still would’ve picked Caleb first as almost every GM in the league would’ve as well. Just stop already.

Have you literally not followed this at all? Poles, Warren, and McCaskey all were asked what they were looking for in a coach. No common threads. There should be a "company line" at the minimum.
As there are multiple other teams looking for coaches I don't want them blabbing to the media and laying out their game plan and what they're looking for in the public. Again, wait a few weeks and see what happens. It may very well fall apart or they may get their guy. It's too soon to get overly excited. So far the Pats are the only team to make a hire and Vrabel to the Pats was all but done as soon as they fired Mayo, so it's not like the Bears are tracking behind the other teams.
I hate using this term, but use the "eye test", he's more accurate, more decisive, and more polished. Kingsbury is far and away a better play caller than anything the Bears have, but once those plays are called the players still have to execute.
Stroud had somewhat of a sophomore slump, but still made the playoffs and won a game and Stroud was sacked the 2nd most times in the league, behind Williams.
Yah you just made my point for me. It’s real easy to look now and say what you would’ve done. The consensus No 1 pick was Williams. They got it right. They put him in a bad situation. One of their own doing. The eye test after the fact isn’t scouting. It’s just an uninformed fan.
You can't compare an NFL head coaching search to a random company. There are only 32 NFL coaches and it's far more competitive. No NFL team is posting the open position on LinkedIn.
Let's play it out. Say all of the Bears brass is in alignment and they make it public that they want a young offensive minded coach who will have input on certain personnel decisions. That would benefit teams like the Saints who may have those same requirements and could lead them to pull the trigger and make a move on the Bears guy before the Bears can.
Also, have you heard of any other teams going public with what they want in a coach? You're getting ahead of yourself by preemptively being upset.
Put Daniels on this year’s Bears team and see how he does. First off he would have been injured. Bears fans were worried about his toughness. Damn kid took a beating and kept getting up, I don’t know another QB in the league that would have finished the season without being injured including Daniels. Stop comparing because you can’t. By the way Bears could have signed Nick Allgretti LWE but know they didn’t want the local guy at KC so Washington signed him. Do you see him playing guard 67. Damn.
At what point during this season did Caleb look ahead of Daniels in his development?
Let me ask you the reverse. Is Washington still a playoff team if Caleb was on the Redskins? He would have his college coach and a better OL but worse WRs and RBs.
Great topic to discuss, but not sure I agree. Washington obviously has the edge on OL, but where else? I would say the Bears WRs are better, slight edge to the Bears at RB, and the Bears defense is better.
Daniels continued to grow throughout the year, I don't think Caleb was significantly better in game 17 versus game 1.
Never know but I wouldn’t bet against him. He’ll put Patrick Mahomes on the Bears this year and he would have sucked.

You added offensive or defensive coach to help your argument, but that's not what was talked about. Simple characteristics or style is what was discussed.
"We are looking for someone who takes control of the lockeroom, has experience with developing young QBs, and can handle clock management in high pressure situations" does not "show their hand". You're legit just arguing just to argue.
As far as getting upset, I have been an apologist or optimist for MANY Bears decisions in the past. This, however, has been such a clown show it's impossible to defend. That's why you have almost everyone disagreeing with with on almost every component you lay out there.
Bears 2 receivers that ran half speed and neither have break away speed in the first place. Yeah ok. DJ Moore and Allen. I like Caleb chances more than playing in the Bears mess this year.
What you just said is the most generic generalization that every team would want in a HC. If you need that to be said publicly to make you feel better I don't know what to tell you.

Still waiting for someone to tell me the appropriate amount of interviews since apparently this has been too many or how this has been a **** show when it's been the same process every other team has followed so far. Lay out for me the HC interview process you would approve of and I'll let it go.

Look at my post before the season started. I remember I said the only way Caleb doesn’t succeed is if the Bears coaching ruins him. Well damn look what happened! Unfortunately it goes even higher because the Bears organization as a hole is crap.
That's a possibility. The Bears OL was bad and Daniels was in a better situation in Washington, but they mentioned a random stat during tonight's game that Daniels has over 300 yards rushing against unblocked blitzers. I feel like if he were on the Bears he would have been sacked less. Even with the Bears OL being terrible how many sacks were on Caleb for holding the ball too long?
So here’s a stat. Williams was the most sacked QB in the league with 68. He was also second in the league for most avoided sacks with 55. No, Daniels would not have done this in Chicago.
We saw what a QB running for his life looked like and we traded him. There was a reason for it.
Williams was the right pick then and the right pick now.
Why is it that when teams are bad it's all on the coaches? Players still have to execute. Before Dan Quinn was at Washington he was only one game above .500 in a little over 5 seasons in Atlanta, he was fired after 5 games in 2020 when he was 0-5 and Kliff Kingsbury was 10 games under .500 as a HC in Arizona and 5 games under. 500 in his time at Texas Tech.

With the Detroit loss, hopefully we will be able to announce Johnson as our new coach and end this embarrassment.
With a very good defense and a much better coaching staff. And an OC that is likely to be a head coach soon.
