Jayvon Alexander (Hoffman Estates 6A semifinalist 2016) too!
I knew I was going to forget others. The three I mentioned were the ones that immediately stuck out to me.

Actually, that's not true. Dew-Treadway I had to look up, but the name was familiar.

Round 6 pick OL Doug Kramer Jr is an HC Alum. A great, inspirational story - Grey shirt then Red shirt to start, then goes on to become a Captain at Illinois - now drafted to his hometown team.

Great day to be a Red Devil!
Great kid and great family. Congrats to Doug.

I think the Bears UDFA's might be better than their actual draft picks. Even with a new administration they are the same Bears. Go for the lowest bidder..

Who would you have had them select? Everything drafted was a significant need.
They didn’t draft anything that’s going to help Fields this year. They didn’t improve the line and didn’t add any skill players that will help this year.

Those are head scratchers to me.

At the end of the day, what do any of us know?? :) Hopefully we get some good production from this draft and time will only tell.

Pace did such a poor job that this draft can do nothing but improve the team. I hope.

Unless you are expecting some Disney Series feel good season, the Bears are going to blow this year. All their Powers that Be at Halas Hall know that. Fields knows that. Everything is building towards the 23 Free Agency, where we will have the most Salary Cap Space we ever had and be able to lure 2 high level free agents, and likely a Top 5 Draft pick where we will be able to Draft a Top player at his position and won’t have to worry about it being a QB either (I hope). So make this upcoming NFL football season be about your Fantasy team, and as always High School Football, and let the Bears rebuild plan take its course.

No one wins a Super Bowl by building a team through free agency, you can use free agency to push you over the top like the Rams and Bucs did but the bulk of your team has to be in place already that's why giving up all those draft picks over the last few years was such a bad move, unless the Justin Fields is some type of savior the Bears will be sub 500 for the next three years most likely.

I agree. This franchise has been so badly managed through the draft that it is going to take building blocks to get this team even to the competitive level.

with that said, the way they are shaping up for 2023, they could have as much as $110m in cap space. This is likely to be a smaller number if they extend Montgomery and Smith.

For the first time, we have a GM looking at building this team back throwing bad money at bad players. I’ll be the first to be critical of him if this doesn’t pan out, but it’s a tried and try method for building a winning franchise so I’m willing to give it time.

Going out and drafting a bunch of wide receivers would’ve been great. But keep this in mind - their secondary was 32nd in yards per play. Their offensive line was bottom 5 in pass rush efficiency. I don’t know if these guys will pan out but they were desperate needs.

Jim Finks was very famous for building the team from the lines out. Hopefully this is the start of a very successful and proven model.

To the point of the secondary, the Bears just might have won the Steelers and 49ers games if the secondary was better. (I think there was another where there was a late PI call, but that could have been the 49ers game). They win those two and they're 8-9. Pace and Nagy might still be around.

Resigning Smith to a max deal is a must. Most under appreciated LB in the NFL. Would have liked the Bears to have taken Dean from Georgia, him and Smith in the middle would have been something but he dropped for a reason I guess. Size matters

Rams was mostly done through trades. Their draft is shot for a couple years but they got what they intended to get. And your definitely right, you can’t build a full team in the draft but you can add and resign essential pieces added with a top draft pick and they talent you have and make huge strides. I’m tired of one year wonder teams, I want what we all want, sustained competitive teams.

Trey Koziol was named by Ryan Poles to be one of the co-Directors of Player Personnel. I'm reading that he played on the Hinsdale Central semi-final team in 2002

Improving a league bottom secondary, in this NFL, helps the offense.

For a young QB learning a new offense, quick routes/checkdowns are a best friend. Especially when as you say, the line remains bad [they literally added a starter and depth tho]. Velus Jones IS THOSE ROUTES PERSONIFIED. His whole game is get the ball quick, make things happen. He can walk in and do that, and the staff plans on using him as such.

Would I have loved a WR early? Sure, but not going to get a WR1 or 2 at that spot, and they likely instead got two day one starters for a terrible secondary.

So yeah, I stand by my comment on your naivete.

Interesting article in today's Sun Times by Rick Morrissey. He goes on about who will take the lion's share of the blame when the Bears suck this year. Pace and Nagy or Poles and Eberflus? He seems to think Pace and Nagy will. He may be right.

For me, I will get it for the first couple weeks. But, then these guys are going to have to own what happens on the field. I am all for the "honeymoon" period. But if the play calling and decision making on the field sucks in week one I am sure we'll speak out about it.

In general it does no good to continually complain about your predecessor if things suck. Just suck it up and move forward with better ideas and better results.

Bears had a brutal WR group last year and let Allen Robinson go. They are in a worse position now then what they were last season. No?

They have a QB who is young and needs help around him. IMO, They haven’t helped him this off season.

Bears offense hasn’t been able to stretch the field in years. There is plenthra of WR’s who can run short routes. (Check downs are for RB’s…not WR’s). Jones better be here to do a whole heck of a lot more than “short routes and check downs”.

Bears had one of the worst WR groups in the league last year and let their best WR walk. And yet, the group is worse heading into this year.

I am excited to see the new DB’s play. I hope they are 10 year starters.

Been absent for more than a year. I thought it was the coaches fault. Would have liked to see him stay.

oh well, they are starting fresh. Let’s see what happens.

I agree. Blaming the guy who is no longer there is the easy cop out. Suck it up you took the job and knew what you were getting into. Make decisions and own them. I don’t want to hear anything about Nagy or Pace.

Does ANYONE read word one written about the Bears in the newspapers these days? What a waste of article space. Such a lame assignment for a writer trying to drum up some interest concerning them. I would imagine the minutiae about Fields' progress is pure blather.

Robinson was completely absent last season.

Either A-Rob gave up on the team, or the team gave up on him… idk which but it was painfully clear when he stopped getting balls and then outright stopped playing last year.

Bears only saving grace this season is how many truly bad teams and bad QBs there are in the league and starting. I don’t see how anyone can predict over 7 wins with the talent assembled, or lack thereof.

I can’t blame poles/eberflus for Bears being bad in 2022, but we can certainly bash them for bad decisions that show through the season as mentioned above.

So, you'd rather read more about the Sox or Cubs?
