Sounds like he is more likely headed back to Texas Tech. They want Beard back bad and have cause to fire their current coach. I think Beard honestly wants to go back to Lubbock because it's familiar and more accepting of him.

"Dusty May (FAU), Chris Holtmann (Ohio State), Ryan Odom (Utah State), Bucky McMillan (Samford) and Chris Mack (currently unemployed, formerly of Louisville) have all been vetted for the job, while Will Wade (unemployed, formerly of LSU) and Penny Hardaway (Memphis) have “failed to pick up any kind of steam” despite being “obvious fits.”

"In fact, a return to Lubbock could be a possibility following the suspension of current Texas Tech coach Mark Adams, who used an “inappropriate, unacceptable, and racially insensitive comment last week,” the school announced. Though the Red Raiders have not made a long-term decision on Adams’ future, ESPN’s Pete Thamel said Monday on Outside The Lines that Beard’s name “looms large” inside the program."

"There would need to be an approval of a re-hiring within the school due to Beard’s off-court events, but if he’s on the market, Thamel has a hard time believing Texas Tech won’t consider it."

“It is difficult to imagine a post-Mark Adams Texas Tech without Chris Beard’s name at least being brought up in conversation, vetted, bandied about,” Thamel said. “He is one of the most popular coaches in school history. … I am not saying it’s inevitable that he is going to be hired or imminent that he is going to be hired, but that name looms large over Texas Tech right now.”

Fitting too. They fire a spitter and hire a biter.

I remember when this game used to have a least a facade of integrity.

If he goes back to TTU I'll eat a TTU jersey. They hate him for leaving and their not firing a coach for character issues only to hire another coach with character issues.

After Auburn hired Bruce Pearl and Hugh Freeze any facade of respectability in the conference was shattered. Just win baby that’s what matters and keeps the donors/fan base happy.

What does Ole Miss have to lose? They have no tradition or track record of success. SEC basketball is fast becoming a arms race. Every program trying to one-up the next. But, the only time the Rebs would make headlines is by hiring a hot potato like Beard. I'm sure he'll only use them to help restore a veneer of respectability and then bolt for a much better job after 2-3 years. Strike while the iron is hot. This is the new paradigm.

It’s funny they want Beard back and think the current coach is horrible for reading a Bible verse lol. I know there is a story about his possibly spitting on a player but who knows.

Logically I get it. But dang. You have to have some sense of values. Would you let your kid play for him? I sure wouldn’t.

It’s amazing the culture we’ve raised. People say they’d never support so and so or let their kid play for this person but when push comes to shove no in has any spine.

I don’t think the issue has anything to do with the actual bible. The issue is choosing your words wisely in certain situations. When you add that to the alleged spitting incident, and the fact Beard is just a better coach than the guy they have that used to be a Beard assistant, it just makes a lot more sense for them to hire Beard. And regardless of what we all think of Beard, he was never charged, his fiancée recanted, and police dropped the investigation.

I agree. But, I think there is more to the story than even "choosing your words wisely." There were most likely issues leading up to this incident. The spitting accusation would support that as well.

No doubt. Hell, they likely realized the opportunity to get Beard back and were just looking for cause to fire the current guy.

I obviously don't know Beard, but I'm amazed at how everyone assumes he is 100% guilty of the accusations, when she recanted. I mean maybe he is abusive, or maybe they just got into an argument and she just made up the story for revenge? I mean women don't ever lie, right?

Treating women like **** is the thing that needs the most attention in this country.
Over drag shows, cancel culture, spy balloons, sports gambling, whatever.
But it's the thing we ignore and excuse the most.

Beard is a top 5 basketball 🏀coach . Why would he go to Ole Miss . Are they ready to be a top 5 program. If they hire Beard yes . If not just watch a little baseball & the Lane Train.

Especially when they don’t want to lose their gravy train. DA victims recant all the time. Even when they we’re legitimately abused.

Because she wouldn't take everything he had in a divorce? I mean I know that obviously happens, but I have to think with the public knowledge of this and the coach getting canned over it, she would have all the leverage in a divorce. Then again, maybe she loves being the "coach"s wife?'.

You gotta read the articles to post on the subject:

Beard was fired for cause in early January, less than two weeks after his fiancée, Randi Trew, publicly recanted some of the allegations detailed in the police report.

I thought they said it was his wife. She could still get him for a lot in damages. So, there is nothing making her stay with him other than money. Kids? Thanks for.clarifying that.

“Adams was encouraging the student-athlete to be more receptive to coaching and referenced Bible verses about workers, teachers, parents and slaves serving their masters,” according to the Texas Tech release. Adams immediately addressed the incident with the team and apologized.
Still idiotic beyond understanding.

I've been watching since the late 50's and I don't remember this time of which you speak. Not all programs are guilty at all times but one generally doesn't have to look too hard to find a scandal or two at any given time.

True but without knowing more it is hard to judge the whole situation. I've said many things in my life that were "idiotic beyond understanding" and had to apologize later. Of course it is entertaining to listen to the pundits when Trump or Biden said something "idiotic beyond understanding" as they either downplay it or make it a national crisis depending on their own political perspective.

If his players loved him as a coach, I doubt it would have been an issue that ever went public.

Fair enough....still with all the faces of color in a today's basketball locker rooms, one might be well advised to go easy on the slave talk.

Don’t get me wrong. There’s always something afoot. But it used to be most people chose to do the right thing. Now it’s, “Meh. Who cares?” Sad
