During his presser, when he was commenting on his obvious hot seat status, he was listing off people who have shown him support. Among those, he listed the parents of two recruits who had texted him. He said it was probably an NCAA violation to mention their names but said he didn't care.

Side note, but I've never really understood why it was against NCAA rules for a coach to mention a recruit by name. Maybe in the old days it helped shield recruits somewhat from public pressure/scrutiny, but players actually seek that now with social media. It works in their favor to have more publicity.

I'll choose to look at it as a middle-finger to the NCAA. It's so worthless right now, and as bad as our team/season is right now, a small violation like that right now would be, 'Really?!? Meh."

And it's not like he was in the flow of rattling off people who have contacted him and had an oopsie. He said it's probably a violation AND THEN said their names.

It would look really bad now if those recruits didn't sign with him, wouldn't it?

under NCAA recruiting rules, a coach can generally mention a recruit’s family — including parents or guardians — as long as it is not done in a way that constitutes recruiting contact or inducement.

The key is that the communication must be non‑recruiting and not intended to encourage the recruit to enroll or participate in athletics at a specific school.

I doubt mentioning that he had some support from some families could be seen as trying to recruit the player.
