If we had run the ball up the middle for no gain and Ferrie came out to attempt a 47 yard FG and missed, how many of y’all would be screaming about how you shouldn’t settle for long field goals and we should’ve tried to get closer? Especially since he had missed a 41-yard FG earlier in the game. I know hindsight is 20/20, but if we settled for a long field goal and missed it, I think people would be upset for Lebby not trying to get closer to give Ferrie an easier kick.

We were gashing them all night in the running game. If he ran for no gain it would be acceptable because of that fact. If he rolls Shapen out with a chance to throw to the sideline and not in the middle of the field where a bunch of bad sh*t can happen no one says anything either. You just can’t throw the ball in an area of the field where half the defense is just sitting all to just try and gain 5 yards for a little bit closer field goal. It’s not worth the risk.

I was fully prepared to accept the fate of a FG attempt and was pleased we had given ourselves a 70% chance to win the game after we had blown numerous scoring chances.

My fear of throwing on the last play actually wasn’t an INT - it was Shapen taking a sack or getting a holding call to make it a 55 yard attempt.

Nope. I’d much rather protect the ball with a run, which is less likely to turnover. Gain what we can, spike it, then take a shot at the FG. Which I fully expected him to make.

is 47 yds a long FG for someone thats 100% from 50+? Be honest, no reason to call a 17ing TO or throw the ball

I might do exactly as you said above if Ferrie missed it short. But considering every kick he’s attempted this year looked like it would be good from 60 if it was straight enough, I doubt that would happen.

Hell, the one that sailed over the upright was from 41 yards. No way was he leaving it short from 47.

I’d have to take into account that we are almost 3 seasons without an SEC victory.

All you have to do is not turn it over or get sacked. Everyone in the entire building knew that…..except Shapen.

I want a QB that can scramble enough to be able to throw it away.

An SEC qb has to have pocket presence. It’s the SEC. Next competition would be NFC South.

Camt have a QB without the ability to pre read defenses and be able to audible on his own.

Need a qb that can read the field and not stare down receivers.

Everything else, length, Height, weight, 40 time….marginal. In order to compete in this league SEC the QB must be prime. No excuse.

So not bullish on Lagway either right?

I’m bullish on UF and especially the Oline. They kept Lag untouched majority of the night.

$4M to pay a pee wee coach to draw up a "pass it to the logo" play call.

And our receiver ran past the logo. 😂

Lebney quoted post game as "loving the play call". Hell, Florida loved it more. The Florida D coordinator told the NG what the play would be during the time out.

$4M. A predictable logo route after a time out. $4M.

Maybe a Florida coach in the booth lip read Lebney mouth out "logo" during the time out. Or maybe the NG is smarter than our $4M coach.

He real question for Lebby is how close a fg attempt was he shootong for?

Did you feel a 45-47 yarder was 25% while something 40 and and in was 80%.

obviously closer is always better, but at what risk?

I haven’t seen the postgame presser but I won’t be surprised if his answer was “we were trying to score a touchdown”

He was well within his range at that point. Run to the middle, spike it and kick. That field goal he missed earlier in the game was on the far right hash. Set him up in the middle and what happens, happens.

Here’s what I’ll be honest about. Considering the leaps that the team has made this year towards playing competitive football, I didn’t think Lebby could do anything this season to make me want him to be fired.

I was wrong

No. I was excited we made it that far and had protected the football. Protecting the football to ensure a chance at a successful kick is the goal in that situation. Throwing it across the middle in heavy traffic for an extra 6 yards is absurd.

I don't know if you understand this but kickers miss 27 yard field goals also. Asking your kicker to make a 45 yd field goal to win the game is absolutely an acceptable decision for a coach. Throwing a pass at that point in game when you're easily within field goal range is not. Sure a lot of people would have been pissed if we tried a FG and missed but the fact is Lebby coached a horrible game from the start and his bungling the finish was just "icing on the cake".

The only throw that should have even been considered there was a throw over the top and if it wasn't there, run Shapen to the middle to set up a spike and FG attempt. As it turns out we DID have a guy open over the top on a deep out to the right but Shapen hits the fat boy right in the hands that Mother Teresa could have caught!

According to play by play recap, Florida called time out w/ 29 seconds.

Prior to the int, the drive was ...
18 yard qb run
Pass complete
Incomplete

0 yard run.
interception.

It’s situational. If we’re down 3, yes, you continue trying for the TD. But down 2, and a FG wins it, it’s one of the single dumbest play calls in school history.
Kentucky was in that situation at the end of their game to tie it u. He threw the ball as well, but his guy only threw it two yards. I think it was a dumb move. Took a chance of a sack or interception to get two yards. Stupid coaching. He got came out ok and got the game into overtime.

Being "honest", you are the only person I have heard even question the call. 100% of everybody else agrees, you run it once up the middle, spike it and kick the FG, and if you make it great, if you miss it's still what you should have done. You don't have to be happy he missed but it's better than being mystified by the dumb azz thing you did do. Summarizing Matt Wyatt's words he said in his 30 years of being around football it was the the most questionable call he had ever seen. Then after coming back from the commercial break after that happened, he said he had been staring at the 30 yd line for 5 minutes trying to figure out why they did that. It was 100% the opposite of what they should have done, end of story.......
