Sarcastically I once told my spouse I know when I’m going to die. The night before Rutgers men’s hoops laces ‘em up for an NCAA title game, or the night before Rutgers football tees it up for the national championship.
Of course my spouse responded “you’ll live to be 180”.

I have been waiting for this forever. I didn't attend RU but my wife attended and graduated from Douglass. I have followed RU since they came in third in the NIT in 1967 with Lloyd and Valvano. The first RU game I attended was vs Penn State at the Barn in March 1971. When we made the Final Four in 76 I attended 13 games. I have attended games for 51 years and been rooting for them for 55 years. I have had season tickets for 32 years and have only missed a few home games since the RAC opened in 77. I am ready to record the NCAA announcement of the teams at 6 PM on Sunday. It has been depressing for the last 30 years but I am going to treasure the moment. It is sad that my wife passed in May 2014 and cannot share this moment with me. I hope my son and I can attend all of the home games again together beginning in November. I might even shed some dears of joy and will love seeing the bracket announced as well as seeing us in it in a newspaper on Monday. GO RU.

I was at the Navy game in 05 when they clinched a bowl game and never saw so many grown men crying (happy tears). Louisville 06 was the pinnacle moment for most RU fans, but Navy 05 was when I realized that a lot of fans had seen "hope" for the first time in decades.
I was also at the 2005 Navy game, as I was every game, with my Father (an MM3 on USS Compass Island back in the early 70's). Couldn't convince him to storm the field that night, but we were both so happy. With the field storming happening again after each win - we went on the field after the Cinncinatti game (a 44-9 W on senior day).

We were sitting up in section 224 for the 2006 Louisville game, and just prior to the Ito kick I remember trying to convince my Dad to run downstairs with me, so that we could storm the field. I think the drop from jumping over the fence and the craziness after the Cincinnati game was still fresh in his mind, because I couldn't convince him once again (I was 17 at the time, he was 53). So with that, I said "I love you Dad, but I gotta go on the field. I'll see you at home!" and his response was something to the effect of "Yeah! Have fun! Be aware!" (he would never tell me to "be careful", but always to "be aware") and I booked it. I never did ask my Father his specific recollections of the end of this game - but I'm sure he was up there smiling and high-fiving the people around us while I was running around like a nut in the ensuing chaos... We did go on the field together after the 2014 W vs. Michigan, another great memory...

With all these comments about fans we’ve lost along the way... I hope skip on Elizabeth is still with us and will be tuned in on Sunday? The legend that called every radio show related to RU from the sports buzz to knightCap. ALWAYS negative

Been a fan for 60 years but after moving from Piscataway to Chicago suburbs in 1973 have lived too far away to attend games. Because TV limited in ‘70s only games I saw from 76 Final Four team were 2 losses at the end. Often wished we could play “name teams” like Northwestern. In B1G we are now proving WE BELONG. Popping champagne on Sunday.

This doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Anyone who has been lifelong committed to this program should take your opinions/thoughts with an asterisk because of this. Like a PSU football fan.
LOL. Admittedly I care a lot more about football and know/believe that its a far more important sport. Basketball kinda fills time, im not really emotionally committed to it but like watching college ball

For those who remember 1991, many thought we were on the bubble. Even though we were the regular season Atlantic 10 champs, we lost to a bad St Joe's team in the first round of the tournament. Upstart Penn State (ironically in their last year in the league before leaving for the Big Ten) won the tournament. John Chaney's Temple team seemed a lock for an at large and no way were they taking three from the Atlantic Ten in those days. Bill Cosby (I know, I know) publicly lobbying for Temple to be selected. Jim Valvano publicly lobbying for RU. In the end they did indeed take three from the A10 and we were a 9 seed in Atlanta playing Arizona State in round one, with number 1 Arkansas (40 minutes of Hell) looming in round two. When our name appeared on the screen most Rutgers fans let out a yell that could be heard for miles.
