When most of you think about this years squad...does Wenyen even cross your mind as an option??? Might give you an idea of how scary we will be

Yeah, kind of a weird post.

But I'm extremely excited for Gabe (still trying..). I'm not sure we need him as a scoring option., but he will be a huge defender, rebounder and energy type. He's the type of player that can bring you a title without being a factor offensively. I think we need him (or Bam with a similar mentality) if we want #9.

Kentucky does nothing but benefit from having those types. Towns was dominant when he started playing with that kind of intensity. The 2012 squad was special in the way that it had high motor guys in Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, and especially MKG, and each one shared the court together. This year may not be 2012, but Bam, Wenyen, and Fox, and Briscoe all play very intense basketball, and are very high motor guys.

I've never really seen a team that had 4 guys on the court at once that will give 110% for every single minute that they play, but that's what this team will have, and that's the kind of thing that can make a team special.

Sometimes those guys are the most fun to watch!
agreed -
I admit to not thinking about Wenyen as a first option type - and more of a 2-3 player than an OAD. As you said, he'll be fun to watch. I am sure Wenyen will contribute this year, but I also think he's going to be one of those who will really explode his sophomore year.

I Look at weynen as a wildcard. I think he will do very well here but i see him as a two year player which is exactly what we need. He's pretty thin and a little raw. I think he will contribute this year but next year I think he will break out. I don't see him being a OAD, but I could be wrong

Lot of love in this thread. With as slow as it has been here I personally don't mind seeing a new thread pop up. Not like a better ones getting pushed off the page.
I do think wenyen could be an X factor for us. High energy guy with length, coordination, and skill. Think he could have a nice impact for this team, just not sure where he fits in offensively.

Fox, Monk, Briscoe, and Bam are guaranteed starters, IMHO.

I think that leaves the fifth starter to be between Gabriel and Willis.

I think Cal starts Willis for a variety of reasons. First, he is a Senior. Secondly, his shooting compliments the other four's games on offense.

Gabriel might start at the 4, which gives us better defense and rebounding, which Cal values more than shooting, though.

However, Gabriel is prefect for the sixth man role. He can play wherever Cal needs him, inside the paint or on the perimeter. He will bring energy off the bench.

Regardless, Gabriel will get starter minutes, most likely, along with Fox, Monk, Briscoe, Bam, and Willis. I think those six are the main rotation guys.

Humphries, SKJ, and Hawkins all figure to play as well, but I don't expect them to play as much as the top six.

My prediction: By the end of the year he will be our best all around player and be our highest draft pick in next years draft.

What do u mean by "option"? Pretty dumb question considering everyone is an option. I agree pretty much with everything that has been said..he'll be a high energy guy and one of our better defenders/rebounders and get 6th man minutes, maybe even start by March.

We have several parts to this edition of the Cat machine,it remains to be seen how they will fit together. One as to figure that Monk and Fox are starters,Briscoe will figure into the mix.Willis,Bam,Jones ,Gabriel and Hump will for playing time in the front court

I think we(fans) will have less idea how this will shake out than we have in the previous Cal years. There is much mixing and matching to be done and there are several unknowns as far as who will bring what to the table.

I think we will be athletic, good on defense, will rebound well and run the court extremely well.On the other side of the coin we may struggle to score at times and be foul prone

I think anyone who says they know exactly what each player is going to give us is fooling themselves. At this time last year we all had Skal as one of the best players in the country. How did that turn out for us?

True.

But we should keep in mind that while recent events are fresh in our minds, we should look at the whole picture of the Cal era and figure that we are more likely to see success than failure.

It is much more likely that we make the NCAA tourney this season, than the NIT.

That applies not only to the team, but the individual players.

For example, it is more likely that Bam becomes the next Cousins, Jones, AD, Noel, Randle, or Towns than the next Skal.

While there are no guarantees, the smart money is usually bet on what has transpired the majority of the time, not on an aberration.

I think WG will be a contributor, but not a key player. I think the key players will be Bam, Briscoe, Monk & Fox. The complimentary contributors will be Willis, Humphreys, & Gabriel. I think Hawkins, Wynyard, Mulder, & SKJ are long shots to contribute much next year unless someone gets hurt.

I see Gabriel in the 15-22 mpg range, and averaging 5-8 pts, and 3-5 reb.

I think we will look something like this:

Starters
G Fox(6'4 FR)- 30-35mpg
G Monk(6'4 FR)- 30-35mpg
G Briscoe(6'3 SO)- 30-35mpg
F Willis(6'9 SR)- 20-25mpg
F Adebayo(6'10 FR)- 25-30mpg

Key Reserves
F Gabriel(6'9 FR)- 20-25mpg
F Killeya-Jones(6'10 FR)- 15-20mpg
F Humphries(7'0 SO)- 5-10mpg
G Hawkins(6'1 SR)- 5-10mpg

Bench
F Wynyard(6'10 RS FR)- spot duty.
G Mulder(6'4 SR)- spot duty.
G Floreal(6'4 SR)- spot duty.

I think that is the most likely scenario, though it's hard to predict at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gabriel starts over Willis, though.

If we had an election for a rafters president umm would win in a landslide. Cat1again and smooth as butter would fight it out as his running mate. Umm is my favorite poster on this board. You know you have made it when Matt jones talks about you on his show.

We know Gabriel will be one of our best defenders this year for sure. Don't know what to expect all around but make no mistake that he has one of the highest "ceilings" out of all our freshman. If he has a big year or even a decent year don't be surprised if he's NBA bound. Certainly possible.

Don't like to make bold predictions cause I'm never right, but can't wait to see them play:cool2:

LOL I'm not either - but I'm with you: can't wait to see them play. Have a feeling we're going to see some surprises.
