I actually switched due to BRAC. My Army Reserve unit was "streamlined" and my commander gave us the option of joining a unit across the other side of the state or release us to another branch of the service, so I decided to join the Indiana Air National Guard. The Army was good to me though and I have no complaints.

I missed this thread yesterday. Did a lot of running around. Got a free meal at Texas Roadhouse with a $10 gift card, and a free dog from the Kentucky Humane Society for being a Veteran. So here's a shout out to the people that care about the Veterans and give thanks to us, whether it be with words, a meal, a pet, or whatever way they choose to show it. So thanks to everyone for that.

I was in the Air Force from 91-95. I was on delayed enlistment during my senior year of high school during the first Gulf War and it was long over by the time I enlisted. I spent most of my time in Omaha at Offutt AFB in NE as a crew chief working on the E-4B National Emergency Airborne Command Post.



Wish I would have stayed in and retired, but I was young and had other plans.

Currently a SSgt in the USAF 2008 - present. Have done three tours over seas and will be heading to Turkey for a year in a few months. I should find out my follow-on assignment (praying for Charleston, SC) really soon and I plan on doing 20 years if they'll have me for that long.

Kham Duc was a little special forces airstrip in the extreme west of I Corp. In the spring of 1968 the NVA 2nd Division moved in and forced evacuation. There were a crashed C-130 or 2 as well as 2 or 3 choppers crashed along the runway that attested to the battle there. An Air Force Major flying a C-123 won the Medal of Honor there when he rescued the last three US troops on the ground.

We reoccupied it in the summer of '70. It was an "interesting" place to be.

The last time I was in Vietnam was Sept. 1966. So many places we landed we were just in and out. Was there in the monsoon season, never see so much rain in my life and then when the rain quite the heat was something else. Guess you know about that.

Not a vet, but sincere thanks to all who are. You're the real hero's and the glue that's kept us safe and free in the land I love.
Still sickens me the way the 'Nam Vets were and still are treated. They deserved a hero's welcome that they never received.

Thanks to all who have served. I want to particularly honor my father(Navy), uncles(both Navy), brother(Army), brother(Army and Indiana National Guard), two grandfathers(both Army), and a friend(Army, who lost an eye and a finger as well as half of another along with significant scarring from an ied). I'm proud of all of them.
