What does Hyatt bring to the team? He disrupts the offense, can’t shoot inside, and is basically a black hole. Other teams scouting should know by now that once he gets the ball inside the arc the defense should just collapse and defend him because it’s never coming back out unless it is a missed basket.

You pretty much summed up the critique of Hyatt's game. When he is on, he can get to the basket or in the lane and score or draw a foul and knock down some 3's. He started the season hot but has struggled last couple games

Sadly, for this “4” star from LSU the lightbulb has not gone off and instead of working on becoming
a good rebounder and passer, he thinks he’s the third option to Cam and Cliff and forces too many shots. Let’s hope come B1G play he performs more of the former and not the latter.

…and from what I’ve seen he seems like a pretty good defender too (and I think we have to assume that since pike wouldn’t play him as much if he didn’t defend well).

People tend to think a players worth can only be measured by what he does with the ball in his hands on offense. That’s only one part of the game

But agree that his offense still has some flaws. He’s far better than last year in that regard FWIW

seriously. so he's not an All American but he's still a good player in my book. People here are way too hard on him.

If we ever have Paul, Cliff, Caleb, and Cam playing at the same time, Hyatt is the 5th option. As 5th options go, he's pretty good. But that assumes he willingly accepts being 5th in line to eat.

Ok, perhaps I’m letting the games I’ve seen color my perception but he could be so much more effective if he occasionally passed the ball. It would keep defenders off him a bit more and also increase his shooting percentage since they would have to defend the pass too. He has the lowest FG % of any starter.

He shoots a lot so of course he is going to be one of the top 3 scorers. Saying he is third on the team in PPG means he is better than one of the other starters and the point guard who’s job it is to distribute the ball. It has to hurt his game and team in general with opposing teams knowing the ball is never leaving his hands except to shoot doesn’t it?

I’m not high on Hyatt. Would have liked to see more development from him from last year. When Caleb and Paul return, I’d like to see him come off the bench. He gets the ball and he feels the need to shoot. He’s infatuated with 3s and he s like 2 for 25 on layups. I don’t think he’s good defensively but he seems to be a good teammate. Most importantly he made the 2 most important free throws for us last year vs Indiana.

He was part of the mass benching after the mini Central CT run in 2nd half. He also sat longer than the other guys. Came back in and turned ball over within a minute. In open court when he gets ball with space and dribbling I can literally the hear the "oh no" telepathically from those around me.

I think hes the same..struggle vs the likes of ccsu and even in last game. He is being counted on to help make up for Harper. I think Mag might be overtaking him again. Also Woolfolk aiming fir his minutes

When Aundre Hyatt and Mawot Mag are your 5th and 6th options you may have a pretty good team.

I’d put Hyatt, thus far, in my most improved conversation. He was 4.3/2.8 a year ago and 11.3/5.0 this season. The comp gets tough now and as guys come back his usage will go down, but he has been a major factor why we are running teams out of the gym versus being in closer than expected games. He‘s getting (almost) 6 FTs a game because he’s attacking from the jump. And he’s making 86% of them.

At 35.2 FG%/27.2% 3FG% I’d like to see his shots fall more often also. He‘s been solid.

I defended Hyatt above - I think he’s a valuable piece and I think that if you can’t see the improvement over last year then you’re blind…..

but his inability and/or unwilling to pass IS a valid criticism imho

The concern there is that we have seen what he does in a smaller role off the bench last season. He forced everything all the time. He needs to play more like Cam. Just let the game come to you.

Mag was forcing things earlier in the season as well. Lately he hasn't and has let the game come to him and he's played much better

He's still right now, the 3rd best scoring option on the team behind Spencer and Cliff. Caleb is working his way back and while Simpson and Woolfork are freshman, if RU needs someone to drive and score/make FTs, it will be Hyatt.

Mag is the ultimate glue guy/garbage man who needs more minutes, but cannot he relied upon to throw him the ball and not fumble it into traffic.

Cliff , Caleb, Paul and Cam are each playing 30 minutes a game

That leaves 80 minutes for

To me , Simpson , Hyatt, mag are getting 20 mpg , wolfolk 10 mpg , and miller and Reiber 5 mpg

If Hyatt gets 7 and 4 in 20 minutes per game , we sign up for that right now

Hyatt is much improved over last year, however, yesterday we got last year’s version of Hyatt. Hopefully, he finishes better around the rim but he does draw fouls and his FT shooting is excellent this year.

He needs to stop dribbling. He's not a guard nor a perimeter player. I can live with the occasional poor shot selection because he does bring many positives to the table, but forcing the action off the dribble drives me insane.

He needs to tighten up his dribble and lower his dribble when he is driving into people bringing it closer to his body. This is a correctable issue in film study and needs to corrected as it happened too much last year and again yesterday. He is driving hard to the basket which is a good thing and getting fouled and shooting well from the line , so controlling that dribble will improve his game and lead to at least 10 points per game especially with his foul shooting.

Bad: He often reminds me of Montez Mathis.
