Next year should be better than this one obviously, but the ceiling is yet to be determined. I think we'll see about 2-3 maybe 4 guys transfer or leave. I'm not putting money on any of them because I wouldn't hasn't thought Thor was gonna stay last year.

My best guess right now: Burke/Green, Cross (potential there, but he's not guaranteed minutes next year and he's shooting 34% on bad defense), and the last one or two are a toss up. Thor could opt to go overseas, Cam could want to go play overseas or g league ball, both of the off guards in Burke and green could leave. Arop is a likely possibility too.

Future final four teams typically don’t get blown out by really bad teams like St John’s. Just a trend I’ve noticed over the years.

Who do you think ends up leaving the team after this year? I could see Green leaving

next year I’m thinking that we will be competitive and in top 5 of the Big 10
I'd say the following will be gone next year

Cross - Replaced with Banton
Arop - Replace with Walker

Green - will be back because his skill set
Thor - will be back, because he works well with Hoiberg
Easley - Will be back, because Hoiberg showed him if necessary he will get to play

Our Roster will be

Banton - 6'9 - SF
Allen - 6'7 - SG
Walker - 6'8 - PF
Yvan - 6'9 - PF/C
Green - 6'3 - SG
Thor - 6'5 - SF
Mack - 6'2 - PG
Easley - 6'2 - SG
Stevenson - 6'6 - PF
Mayen - 6'9 - SG/SF
King - 6'4 - SG
Burke - 6'4 - SG
Open - Back up PG?

I think someone said Banton can bring the rock up as well.

Mack is not leaving. He has not played well enough to get an NBA sniff.
Burke is not leaving. He already transferred once and no way will he want to sit out again.
Thor is not leaving. He stayed after everyone else left, and it paid off. This is exactly what he wants.
Easley is not leaving. He is a walk-on from Lincoln who actually gets to play. What is there to be disgruntled about?
Green is a maybe. He may decide to play D2 instead of sitting a year and be a star again. He's got to worry about PT with Allen, Banton, and King coming in.
Cross is a maybe, although he has to know he is a project in need of development. He is not going to land in a program that gives him a better situation.
Arop is a maybe. His brother transferred, although it didn't turn out well for him. Just not much room for him at present.

Nebraska basketball is simply cursed and will never be good. 8-30 from the line seals it.
Cursed. Forever. There is no hope.

Should change mascot to the Nebraska “Next Years”.

Eh.. I feel like things have changed. Fred Hoiberg is a massive upgrade from Miles. I think next year we will be around .500 if not better and the following years we will be in the tourney. We have about knocked off a ton of good teams this year with basically a 100% roster flip. We have ace recruiters and a stud coach. Big things coming for NU basketball. Not saying National Title, but we will be in the tourney regularly and will win games.

Some pretty decent talent in that list. But Hoiberg likes to play 7-8 guys so something has to give. So it won't surprise me to be surprised about off season roster attrition.

We will be a whole new team next year. Whole lotta guards, but we will be a lot better and the style of play will be too. Depends how Fred wants to play Stevenson. He can play a lot of positions - will be hard to have Teddy off the bench so Teddy prolly starts. A lot depends if King can get his waiver to play right away.

Mack/Burke
King/Allen/Green
Stevenson/Thorir
Banton/Lat/Cross
Yvan/Walker

We had a whole new team this year, a fact that was often cited while pointing out NU’s struggles.

Isn’t it obvious? There’s no guarantee that yet another near complete turnover of the roster is a guarantee of success. Cuz the last one was a hot mess.

That said, it’s gonna be hard to be worse than this year.
I agree that roster turnover can always have problems. However if nothing else I would expect improved talent level and over size on perimeter. My hope is for over .500 season and if it’s better I’m stoked

Hoiberg had 31 days last year to put together a team. He's already added Banton, Stevenson, Walker, King, Mayen and Allen for next year, and he could probably find another two or three players in the next 45 days to add to that. And with Yvan, Thor and Burke as possible spot-minute rotation players, the roster is set for next year in a way it wasn't even close to being set a year ago.

The assembling of next year's roster is not comparable to assembling this year's roster.

There's a team I know of that may win the big east and be a 2 or 3 seed that has one guy over 6'7 and he's their 7th guy. Fred's going to play a similar style.

Kudos to the birds, but the Big Ten is a different monster. How many dominant big men in that league? That's an honest question because I'm a Nebraska alumnus, so I don't watch that other team. Does the Big East have bigs that are similar to:
  • Garza and Kriener
  • Cockburn and Benzhanishvili
  • Jackson-Davis and Brunk
  • Uturu
  • Teske and Davis (and the 6-10, 6-11 guys on the bench)
  • Tillman
  • J. Smith
  • Wesson and Liddell
  • Reuvers and Potter
  • Haarms
  • Watkins
It's true that you can create a lot of great open looks with a smaller, quicker lineup, but you have to hit those open looks. We can be better at that next year, but we'll still need to defend other teams' bigs, and when we double down, Big Ten lineups also have deadly three-point shooters.

Good for Creighton, and Fred does want to play a similar style, but he's also smart enough to realize what's needed in the Big Ten may not be the exact recipe that works in the Big XII or the Big East.

That said, we don't bring in a seven-footer next year, though Banton (6-8), Mayen (6-9), Walker (6-8) and Stevenson (6-6) bring some height and some bulk (not Banton).

Arop's brother did not transfer, Nebraska wanted him to spend a year at a prep school. He spent a year at The Skill Factory Prep and then signed with San Diego St., where he's playing 10 minutes a game as a sophomore. Yes, the SDSU that is 29-1 and going to be a 1 seed in the Big Dance. Seems to have worked out well for him.

Yeah im not saying we need to switch style of play and recruit to a half court set offense.. im agreeing with 9&4 saying we need guys that can run the court a lot closer to 7'.. id take a bunch of 6'10 guys that can rebound box out and defend over what we had this year..is all im saying..

and I think that's fair. I just think overall, we first need better players, not taller players. I also think we just need some bigger bodies. Between Thor, Burke, and Mack (3 guys that get a ton of minutes and will prob be here next year), there's just not a lot of meat on the bones.

Ah, you are right. I was thinking of Akoy Agau. My bad. Agau transferred three times, ended up back at Louisville where he averaged 6 mins and less than 2 points per game his senior year.
